Just to confuse the issue, I believe there are blade choils, finger choils, finger choils that are themselves blade choils, and knives with both a finger choil and a choil. In any case, I've always been partial to choils (and goils) for ease of sharpening rather than an edge's running into or fanning wide at the ricasso.
