I lost my longtime friend my Spyderco Delica (First gen) with integrated FRN clip. Looking at new knifes I have not found any with a integrated clip preferably a non metal clip. Any suggestions?

Is there a reason you want an integrated clip? Other than just being used to it.

Spyderco pretty much doesn't make them like that anymore. Pocket clips break. I happen to have an endura with integrated clip, and if I could, I'd trade for an endura 3 with metal clip.

I'm unaware of any other manufacturer that made FRN clips.

My first Delica had the integrated FRN clip and it broke. I am glad they have done away with it.

I also have a native with a metal clip. The clip has put gouges in my leather steering wheel while getting in the car. The metal clip does not stay in one place the nub no longer holds it in place. To compensate I tightened the screw so tight it broke. Fabricated a stronger screw that holds the clip more ridged but it still swivels 10-20 degrees and I am constantly straightening it. Never had a problem with the integrated clip even though I carried that Delica ten times more than that wobbly clipped Native.

While some clips just screw into the frame, others are more integrated and would be less likely to ever rotate on you. For example, the budget but great Kabar Dozier's clip goes into the handle and becomes very sturdy, to the point where I think it would literally break off before it would ever rotate.

As far as scratching the steering wheel goes, can you raise it up a little? [emoji3]

Just watch the exchange here. The early models with the integrated clips turn up for sale.

Bummer. I'm really going to miss that Delica with the FRN clip but looking around for a new knife I see some neat things. I might try one of those flippers. I was happy with Sprderco but see some interesting stuff from others. What other brands are comparable to Spyderco?

SOG used to (not sure of they still do) have some models with integrated, molded clips. Some were even adjustable to accommodate different thicknesses of fabric. Or you could try to find some old model Spyderco's for sale - they do come up now and then.

Would really depend on the features you want, but it sounds like one important feature for you is a pocket clip with 2-3 screws holding it in place :P

Aftermarket carbon fiber clips are available. They are less ridged and don't hold as tight.

Do you remember a SOG model with a molded clip? I have been looking but as of yet not found one with a integrated, molded clip. I would like to get a new knife instead of a old Spyderco with a integrated, molded clip. How does the quality of SOG compare to Spyderco?

Have you tried getting in the car a different way?
How are you getting in a car, that your pocket is near the steering wheel?

IIRC Cold Steel also made some folders with integrated FRN clips.

Never much liked the FRN clips. I still have my 1st Gen Delica with the integrated clip but much prefer metal clips. I broke a couple integrated clips and another popped off and got lost because you can't tighten them.

My first Spyderco had the molded clip. I carried it for years (and never broke the clip). When I decided to buy a new Spyderco, they only had metal clips. It kinda bothered me at the time because I liked that knife and clip design--the molded plastic clip felt more comfortable in hand when using the knife. But I learned to like metal clips and I wouldn't go back to the molded design now. You'll get used to metal clips on knives in time.

maybe take a look at the böker a²... it is not "integrated" but a mounted g10 clip as far as i know.

When the wife drives the car she moves the seat real close and sometimes moves the steering wheel down. If I'm not careful or aware she has moved things I nick the steering wheel with the metal knife clip. I could move the knife to my left pocket and avoid this but I want the knife in my strong draw pocket. The molded clip was a solution, but I have come up with a temporary solution that I'm beginning to like. I placed a paracord lanyard on a Case knife I have had for years. The lanyard is about five inches long with a diamond knot ball on the end. I tuck the ball behind my belt so that the ball rests on top of my belt and the knife hangs inside my pocket. If I grab the knife and pull, the lanyard comes lose from the belt. The paracord lanyard is less noticeable than a clip and I'm able to use a knife I rarely carried because I did not like having the knife sitting at the bottom of my pocket. I still miss that Delica especially because I had added a nub (tie wrap) to the thumb hole to allow a fast opening if I dragged the nub against my pant as I drew the Delica. The case is a nice knife but can not be opened as fast as my nub modified Spyderco's. I have been looking at flipper knifes they seem to be almost as fast as my Delica with the quick deploy nub but they all have metal clips.

I'm not trying to be rude, rather trying to eliminate every other variable before you dismiss a metal pocket clip. If your wife leaving the seat too far forward is the reason you are gouging the steering wheel, then you should make an effort to check the seat location before you enter the vehicle. Blaming a pocket clip for laziness is just that.
