Me keeping a snake as a pet is about as likely as me setting up a colony of transsexual adventurers on the moon.... !! ;) Nope that one is actually dead, I had just taken him off one of my dogs (and had the dog sitting with me for observation to see of we needed to head for the vet post haste) ... found what I am guessing was its brother or sister in the front yard the following day.

I asked because there's a very small population of folks who actually keep these guys and then sells them to zoos or milking facilities where they extract venom. The freeze dried venom costs more than gold per gram.

Yeah lots of people out here who keep all manner of bitey snakes, my favourite was a teenager who got stung last year by a cranky Inland Taipan a bit north of where i live (and a LOOOOOOOOOG way from where that snake belongs), some tool was keeping it at home and the teenager stuck his hand in the plastic container. The snake wrangler that was called to the hospital (they arrived with the snake in the box as well) said the moment he realised what was in the box was a little "special" .... :D

It is now common practice here for drug dealers to keep their stash in with a Common Brown/Tiger/Death Adder etc for added security.

I didn't read the previous replies yet so forgive me if this has already been discussed.

Was never much into snakes but I had all kinds of lizards (fairly small ones, no monitors) when I was younger and one stands out in my mind.

Tokay gecko...that was one mean lizard, it had the nastiest disposition of any I owned, did not like being picked up and could bite VERY hard for it's size and would hang on like a pit bull, I learned the hard way.

It was about as friendly as the snapping turtles I run into these days.

Sorry to respond to my own post but after reflecting on the pain it inflicted on me someone should name a knife after this thing...how about the Spyderco Tokay?

It could be marketed as, "The knife that will attack ANYTHING, regardless of size"...LOL!

Just saying this is the best thread ever. But everyone seems to be more into snakes. I'm definitely a lizard guy. Have a 2 year old beardie and a juvenile leopard gecko. Hoping to add a veiled chameleon and a blue tongue eventually. That one on the first page was amazing!
