Knives you never thought you'd own?

My first experience with internet access was during my freshman year in college while living in the dorms during the fall semester of 2000. I discovered bladeforums a few months later. BF opened up a whole new world. I'd never heard of Microtech or DDR before. I would spend hours looking through every single page of sites like bladeart or Triple Aught Design. I was smitten over the Halo 3 and Nemesis. I drooled over stealth D/As that I never imagined possible.

Once I got into the Army, I was finally able to afford some of the things I drooled over. Never in my life did I think I would be carrying a D/A Socom or a CFO2. This last year has brought some amazing knives. I still can't believe I actually owned a Burn swing guard for a year. In May last year, I actually owned a Brend Nemesis. Soon I'll have a Reese Weiland auto Hawk. If you were to tell me this 3 years ago, I'd say you were smokin it.

So what kinda knives did you never fathom owning?

For years I was happy with my little Spyderco Co-Pilot. I lost it last year some time and I saw that it was discontinued and a little hard to find so I started looking at other Spyderco models. While looking around I saw the many forums dedicated to knives and started reading reviews and this that and the other and now I own more knives than I'd really care to mention and several duplicates because, you know, the precious...

But anyway, I never thought I'd have more than a couple knives let alone a collection. I don't think it will end and I can see myself getting a nice fat Busse and making Youtube videos with me saying, "I'm just hanging out.... YAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH" and slicing cardboard cut outs with the gracefulness of a 30 something fat kid.

When I first found Bladeforums the most exotic knife I owned was a half serrated Kershaw Scalion (which I still think is a great knife). If, back then, I were to look at pictures of the knives that I currently own, way more than half of them I would have considered to be knives that I'd never own. In particular I would have never fathomed owning something like a Sebenza or Burke production Rockstar let alone anything that was custom made! My accumulation is still no where near some of the people on the forums but I now have one custom folder and one custom fixed blade and a whole host of very nice production knives. I consider myself very lucky.

LOL so your the " just hanging out" guy? :D ;)

When I first started reading BF, I was thinking about a knife just as a tool. I was ready to pay for quality and materials, but seeing how both can be had for less than $100, I never thought I would ever own a knife over a $100. Now I have several. Along the way I realized that knife is not just a tool, but also an Art and Collectible. Even after that, I thought I would never own a Sebenza or a Strider, because of very little gain for a lot of money. Well, now I have Sebenza and Strider. Even after spending money on those knives, I thought I would never go for a Custom over $500. I proved myself wrong again. I'm afraid to think what goes next... This is a sickness :) ... but I'm glad I got it. I always tell myself that it is better than collecting stamps :)

Never thought I'd own a knife over $30 let alone several spydercos of which many are in the $100 just over range. And then OF COURSE I would have NEVER fathomed owning a Chris Reeve knife....and now?? I own TWO Sebenzas and TWO Mnandis.

Just as I was warned when I first joined this community I am now ill/diseased/infected without any known [we hope] cure.

It was actually my dad who told me about the high end knife companies such as emersons, microtechs, and striders. My goal as a knife collector has always been to own a strider SNG and a microtech halo. My first time dabbling in the high dollar knives for me was a chris reeve large sebenza. Now I actually own a strider sng. Like you said, I never thought it would happen...at least this quickly. Im still dreaming of the microtech halo. Maybe someday....

Well it was in stages. At first a long time ago I never thought I'd own a spyderco (only expensive knives I knew at the time). My sister bought me my first one....and that was it. I was hooked on spyderco everything and bought up all that I could afford. Then I saw the Sebenza and was like "man I dont think I'll ever own a $300 knife". I have since owned and traded etc over 20. My uncle showed me to the world of Busse and I thought...."I'll never own a Busse" got a Bandicoot and then an SFNO now I own many Busse's.

A few years ago I didnt think I'd own a custom anything. Then I bought a Darrel Ralph and Crawford Folder. I have since owned many many customs and have some on order now.

Its been a progress of realities. Used to be I'd never consider spending or affording a $100 knife. Then it was $300 etc. Now I have since owned a $1000 + knife. I dont know if there is a limit but as I own and use I find little things I like and want to have better with higher end knives. It really is a sickness :)

For me it would be an XM18. It has to be one of the best designed and well made knives I have ever handled.

I thought I never over a knife over $100. now almost every knife in my collection is over $100.
They only one I have left inder $100 is my Buck 110FG. My son has slowly pilfered the rest into his collection

I have a Lee Reeves Double-Bit axe, a Randall Model 1, and a Pheasant Tail Sebenza. I can't say how many years I waited but owe BF a HUGE thanks.

The Roton balisong that's in my pocket now is on my "wtf list." Thought for sure I'd missed the boat on these, back in the early 00's when the balisong world blew up again. Recently, I was really pleased to learn that Rich is still making them (and that they're even improved over the original design), and that they're so reasonably priced!

CharlieMike, you always post good questions/threads. Thanks.

I can echo the previous posters. I never thought I'd be crazy enough to own a $$ knife but I do. Then comes the $$$ knife and the $$$$ knife after that. It just keeps on adding up.

MT halo v, or really for that matter a few years back i remember googling spyderco and benchmade and having my eyes pop out at the price of 60 bucks a knife!!

+1 I'll second that.Also,didn't think I'd ever get a CRK,or a DDR.Not that I didn't likem',hell I loved them.I just didn't think I'd ever spend $400+ on a knife.Now I'm looking at $600+ knives.:o

I joined in 2008 and at the time I thought a griptilian was a high dollar knife. Now I have owned 5 crk's, a busse, an extrema ratio, a MT scarab, and a few customs. Never would I have thought I would have the pleasure of owning these pieces.

Never thought I'd break the 400+ barrier for one knife, oh well so much for that.

I don't think that guy uses a Busse in any of his vids but he is a boss.
