Knives you plan to hang onto...

I buy and sell on the exchange pretty frequently. It is a great opportunity to try out knives with out losing $$$ by buying at full retail and selling at a loss. I guess a majority of my collection is in flux except for a few select knives that I can't find ever seem to want to flip. Does anybody else have some keepers that are safe from the exchange?

I do have knives that I am very reluctant to part with (e.g. ZT 052 and BM 710-1401) and knives that I regret selling (e.g. ZT 0200). However, down the road I cannot guarantee any of them will be kept forever.

The only two that are completely off limits... everything else is negotiable ;)

The Nirk Tighe was a Christmas present from my wife, and the Sebbie has my birthdate+my wife sent it to Butch to be converted for my birthday.

Mine are safe as well. I hang on to everything I buy. Eventually, they'll probably just head to the landfill when the time comes or a garage sale. This hobby is not about the money. Eventually I may re-think this, but for now that is the status quo.

Added: If a friend wanted one of my knives I have no intention of using, I might sell it to them at about cost. That is IF I can remember the cost. :D

I haven't sold any yet and have no plans in that direction...might give a few away but, then again, maybe not...

Cheers/bg

We are fickle and everything is eventually for sale when something new comes around. The only ones I have that I would try to not sell are the few that I've received as gifts.

Everything is disposable.

Which means I've regretted selling / giving some of them away.

But what the heck. You can't have everything... where would you put it?

There are very few material things that I'm not willing to part with and most of those have some form of sentimental value. With that said, I don't see myself selling or trading my Lightfoot 460 Magnum. I may; however, gift it to one of my sons some day.

You know the last time a thread was up like this I said I'd never sell my very first PM2 and my Ritter mini grip. Now I could picture selling my PM2, in favor of my CruWear Manix 2. That knife will degrade into a mangled mess of carbon fiber and steel before I sell it.

Still keeping my little orange Ritter. That knife holds a special place in my pocket. Couldn't ask for more out a knife that size.

I've have recently been thinking about what I want to keep and what goes away. I have come to the mindset that most of what I now own works very well for my needs and have no plans to part with any of them. I also understand that needs change with your age and lifestyle. So, many knives that I would have kept a couple of years ago now could be put on the chopping block if needed.

My plan has always been to part with the cheap stuff first and keep the better gear for me to enjoy. But now I am even rethinking that, so that I will keep what fits my needs the best; no matter what the cost or quality may be.

At this point, only two knives I will not part with. My fathers hunting knife and his M3 Trench knife from WW2.

My knives are worth way less than their provided utility so I'd have no real reason to sell them.
Generally speaking though any knives I just love and carry often ( maybe were grail knives ), those with sentimental value, or gifts from forum friends are ones I'd never sell or give away. Forum giveaway prizes may be passed along if they don't " do it " for me , but I'd certainly not sell them.
