Knives you wanted as a kid ?

By the time I was a teenager, I had a Buck 426, Buck 110, ontario pilot's survival knife, a victorinox SAK, and a vintage Marble's woodcraft I got for 50 cents at a rummage sale, also various non-decent knives.

I wanted the Buck 119 Special more than anything, followed closely by the Kabar USMC iconic knife, and a Buck 110. I actually thought those were the top of the knife world, before the internet, and powdered super steels, etc...

There were two that I always wanted... and still never bought! A balisong and a wakizashi. I know technically the waki is not a knife

I grew up in Sheffield England so there were plenty of knives in the shops, folders, bowie knives and daggers but as a kid, I couldn't afford any of the big knives I really wanted so I got a cheap multi blade folder.

I always wanted a Buck 110. I sort of lost interest in them over the years. I have one now that is some sort anniversary edition. It lives in my knife drawer.

What knives we coveted certainly is age or generational. I have always wanted a Rambo knife, most of them, but I was grown up by then and knew that most of them weren't real good blades. By the time I knew about Buck 110's and the numerous clones, I was grown up. Probably wouldn't have gotten one anyway due to the size and cost at that point. That changed later in life and I carried a Schrade 110 type knife for about 5 years working and as a hunting knife. My backup was my Case slippie.

As a kid, I was limited to the distance that I could ride my bicycle for the most part. In those days, that was under 5 miles one way. The only pocket knives that I was aware of were the "expensive" Case knives and Imperials. Started with Imperials from the 5 & 10 store, and when I earned enough money to buy a Case, I bought a Barlow. Owned several Imperials as my hands grew larger; the knives grew larger. They were cheap. The local hardware store sold Case knives. Loved my Case Barlow. Used it for years hunting, trapping, and as a general outdoors knife. I don't recall ever carrying my knife at school.

First of all was SAKs, as a kid
Then became the balisong/dagger obsession
The sword, big chopper and massive blade era

and now I have samples of all those, and still addicted to blades! Many other kinds and styles, but blades nonetheless

As a kid, I was attracted to knives with a guthook. I just thought those were an awesome addition to a hunting knife and that I had to have one.

Funny enough the knife I really, really wanted when I was younger was one of my Dad's. A Buck Buckmaster, as a kid that just blew my mind. He had the silver one.

Even nowadays it's a mean lookin' blade. I don't think I'd have any use for it, but as a kid that knife was one badass blade.

As kids, many of us were attracted to "badass" knives. To be honest, I never really saw a bad ass knife unless somebody wanted to call a bowie bad ass. I went through that stage later in life, but they tended to be fairly expensive and not your typical throw away knives.

So, now I understand why young people are attracted to mostly useless knives. But it's fun none the less.
