Knives

Yeah I know, I can't believe that I was retarded or "stoopid" enough to "talk about knives" on a knife forum. I wanted to create a thread where everyone can talk about knives in general. How you use them, and why. I also wanted to gather opinions about what makes a knife important. I wanted people to share why one relys more on folders vs fixed blade and so on.

Haven't you guys read threads where the OP asks for opinions on folders for SD or Utility? You have guys that are helpful and offer good advice on what folders would fit that role. In other cases, you have the guys that say use the search option or even better, say stoopid things and talk about everything else other than what the OP intended to be the topic of discussion. Such as, "get a fixed blade!" Or, "Carry a gun." This usually turns into, "A rifle is better" discussion. Meanwhile, no one is talking about the original topic. You know those threads, kind of like this one. I don't have to justify why I created this thread. I didn't ask specific questions on purpose. I wanted you guys to creatively provide input on your own. "Lets talk about Knives." I added that because I wanted those who reponded to keep the topic relevant.

Knives have been around since the begining of man kind. I'm sure nothing you say about a knife is ever going to be "new" with the exceptions of specific materials used and how they are made. Am I trying to "package" different thoughts and opinions from the site? Yes, I am. Maybe because I'm trying to consolidate some thought into one thread. I really don't care if this has been done before because the moment I post my message it becomes the most current version. Peoples opinions change as time goes on.

Remember what I said about jumping on the band wagon? Is it really that hard to contribute positively? Again, I wasn't specifc on purpose. I'll try to specify down to what color crayon you guys should use next time. Whatever, I've said my piece. Thanks for taking the time out of your days to sharing your thoughts no matter how un-related to the thread it was. If some of you find it in yourselves to post helpful information, thanks. Have a wonderful day.

You know, I'm one of the original members of this site and in all the years I've been here I still only use my knives to cut things. That includes slicing and occasional hacking and chopping according to the venue...kitchen, yard, forest etc.

If I have to worry about the knife "folding" or its structural integrity, I use a fixed blade. The right tool for the right job.

See? No real need to reinvent the wheel or get all pouty. Besides, you're the infantry...you need to show a little more fortitude.

Can't we all just discuss random aspects of knives for a change? You know, anything, anything at all. I like knives. I also like pie. Can't we all just discuss random aspects of pie for a change? I also like cats, but I'm really more of a dog person; and I like pie too.

I don't think I can improve on the advice you've been given already CQC86, but you mention in two sentences:
How you use them, and why. I also wanted to gather opinions about what makes a knife important. I wanted people to share why one relys more on folders vs fixed blade and so on.

There are the keywords for beginning 3 thread of discussion in there. Of course all of them have been discussed to death and you'd be better off to look at the first few pages of the General Forum to find something similar. Search will also yield a lot of results.

The topics are just too large and lack focus. You'll figure it out, nobody's piling on you, just giving sound advice. ;)

And bacon. Who doesn't like bacon?

And yes there's always that question!! :D

I like knives but do they LIKE me? I own so many.. but am I morally correct in doing so? I mean, I never ASKED if they wanted to be purchased. Do they get jealous when I use another, instead of them? Or do they prefer to stay in an unused condition? Does my knife enjoy sitting on top of my dresser where it can see what is going on or would it instead, wish to be in the quiet darkness of the safe. So many questions but I never see them being answered much less asked. We need to think outside the box. We need to push the envelope and then CUT the envelope open with a knife. Next, we should talk about the feelings we experience when we are cutting envelopes. And then, what of cardboard?

This is an extremely profound question.

Given the number of times knives have sent me to the emergency room, I'd have to say knives don't like me. But who knows? Maybe that's just their way of showing affection.

Like sand through the hourglass, so are the days of our knives.

I like knives, and find them a necessity at work and home. I enjoy trying new steels and designs. What I find interesting is how most manufacturers attempt various interpretations of how the human hand works (ergonomics). I prefer larger blades because the longer cutting edge allows a longer intervals between sharpenings. Hope this helps.;)

I'm sure that most of you have experiences. However, things arn't always simple. Sometimes, you can't carry a 4 foot katana. I love how the person who defends their thread is always seen as being "pouty" or "butt-hurt." Don't flatter yourselves. I think it takes more "fortitude" to stand up to a crowd for what you believe to be right rather than being in it. Besides sir, you're one of the founding members... you should show a little more respect.

Sharp knives are generally a good thing.
Cziv's are too sharp, though. Apparently they can cut through the space-time continuum so that he is able to view posts before they happen.

...that, or he edited in the comment after posting, but before the threshold for edit stamps.

Chuck is our resident weirdo. Who knows what he's gonna come up with next? (Not as bad as Maniacal Pete, though.)
