I'm a member of another big forum that likes to do 30 day challenges, so I've been thinking of doing something similar here. Feel free to join me if you would like. I'll be starting on March 1st.

So here's your official invite to the "knocking off the shine 30 Day challenge." I've decided I'm going to take one of my unused "safe queens" and carry it for a month (30 day) straight. I'll attempt to take a picture each day and post it.

If anyone else wants to join in you're more than welcome. Here's your excuse to grab that knife you've been a little scared to use and "knock the shine off." You have a week to decide.

For me I've decided to pick my BF 2023 Hump Back Congress as my sacrifice. It's been sitting in its tube for the last year. I've always had back luck with single spring knives having blade rub and scratching up the blades, so I've never carried it.

I did this last year for "Single Blade September" and again in October. Apple season put a really nice patina on my GEC 44.
I'm down to try this again with one of my recent pickups.
Glad to have you! For clarification for anyone thinking to join this isn't just for GEC, any (traditional) knife is welcome.

Is half the point just to carry an unused safe queen? I don't have any I think of as a safe queen. More like knives I've bought and just didn't enjoy as much as I thought I would. Or worse, something I thought for sure I would like only to open it up and just ugh why did I buy this...

Then it's a perfect time to put those to use and confirm whether or not you like them.
If you find you don't like them, easy enough to then sell them and fund something you will actually use.

I'm just going to assume this won't actually require a daily pic upload. I could see a weekly but daily feels a bit much.

I might even throw together an new leather pocket slip for this. So how much wear it shows after a month of carry.

It's more just for fun, so no strict rules. I'm using it as an excuse to carry one I've never used, but its also a chance to retry something. Scubaroo Scubaroo said it well

I'm going with a Queen too. A Shatt and Morgan.

I only have two knives that would be considered "safe queens" and basically they're just so darn nice I'm afraid to use them. This thing is 100% quality from stem to stern.

Time to get er out and about. I'd never sell this so may as well enjoy it.

Ah ok cool thanks.

I find it odd how that pattern doesn't seem to be produced nowadays. I have an old Robeson that's a bit over 4" and wanted to get a Case or something like that to carry around and there are no options!

Maybe I'll have to keep a look out for a Queen.

I like this idea, im deciding between three. The forum knife i never had a connection with till i got it dyed, now i have carried it every day since i got it back (about a week) the tc has been just sitting since i got it because its smaller than i like, but too nice to let go. The stone is just so cool i cant help but carry it. So pretty much all of these are the closest to safe queens that i have. The bf knife is "too big" and the tc is "too small" so if i carry both its just right......right? We will see. 20250222_092224.jpg20250223_091236.jpg

I’d like to get involved with this one if I may. Acquired my first Beaver Tail at the beginning of the week and quite fancy throwing it in at the deep end.
I also feel I must use the opportunity to set some firm favourites aside too!

Thing is, March is the birthday month for me and I know there is a special GEC #93 waiting out there so I can see this endeavour getting a little tough!!

See you tomorrow…
