Knocking the Shine Off - One Month At A Time

Please forgive. The flesh is weak but the steel is strong. I just cannot get behind the medium stockman. But the 47... My love grows for her and now she's in carbon steel instead of stainless.

It took far too much effort To get the burr edge clean on the medium. I don't know if the belt ate that one too hard maybe. But all the 47 needed was the strop. She's now nicely sharp and ready to finish the challenge. I cannot get over for the minimal size increase you get so much more blade. Outstanding.
Nice side by side comparison!

As far as I know it's 1095, and in my experience it performs the same as the CV they used before which for me has been as good or better than their tru sharp 420ss.
Wasn't Case's "CV" a modified 1095?
Or was it like Schrade's "Schrade+" ... 440A unless for some reason 440A was unavailable and they used a different stainless in the same class, such as 420HC, or 1.1441 Krupp. (i.e.: some "CV" was 1060 to 1085 ... or regular 1095 without whatever they added to it?)
I forget what Case added to their 1095.

Chrome vanadium 1095 as far as I know.

I received the new knife earlier, and the apple I ate confirmed that it is in fact 1095 like it was supposed to be.

I was surprised at just how much patina it developed from just 1 green apple, this thing is going to look great after 30 days.

In case anybody is wondering, the knife is a Queen brand bird and trout made by Bear & son.
It was supposed to be some kind of amber type color of winterbottom bone, but it looked awful and I remedied that with a little butane torch and a good buffing.
I may have to pick one of those up. I keep trying to like a fixed blade.

Love the 47

I agree completely on the superiority of the 47's... the 3 blades are just great working knives. The 2 bladed ones are still working knives, but being slimmer, they are a little more "civilized"... 😁

And I forgot to add... guess I'm in as well. I've got a Schrade Scrimshaw barlow coming, that looked pretty much brand new in the pics. It should be here in the next few days... thanks to Blasted Hill Knives Blasted Hill Knives .... I'll snap a pic and drop it in the pocket ASAP. I'm pretty sure it's carbon steel.... maybe one of the Schrade gurus on here can verify..
