I recently bought a slightly modded Spyderco G10 Delica from korbiaka and I must say, the dude provides some great service. I did learn a lesson as a future seller on BF, though. Here's what happened
I sent quick payment, korbiaka shipped it out fast and provided tracking/DC. The next day I checked the tracking information and noticed that it said "Arrival at Unit", but the package was in the wrong state. Instead of WI where it was supposed to be, the package was in Livonia, MI. I emailed korbiaka and got a quick response. Korbiaka suggested that it may be a mistake with the tracking info, I agreed, but when I went to check the tracking info again later that night, it said "DELIVERED in Livonia, MI @ 9:00AM". At this point I was pretty sure that something was fishy. I emailed korbiaka again (once again he responded very fast). At this point we both thought that the package was delivered to the wrong person. The package wasn't insured so I immediately began worrying that this may turn into a situation where someone is going to lose money and be pissed.
I decided to wait it out and not discuss refunds or anything since it would only make an irritating situation for me and the seller more tense. Instead I called USPS and opened a lost package case. Since it clearly said it was delivered to the wrong state, I was hoping USPS would take full responsibility. The seller offered to head to his PO with his receipts and see what was going on, but if the package was lost he was prepared to offer a full refund to me. I was glad to hear it, but I still wanted the damn knife, not the money
The next afternoon I came home from lunch to find the box sitting in my mailbox safe and sound. I emailed korbiaka again and let him know that all was well.
The moral of the story: Korbiaka is a prized member of the BF seller community.
I also learned a very important lesson about the liability of a BF seller. So many sellers try to sell you insurance and DC on top of the price of their item, but it really isn't the buyer's responsibility to worry about that stuff. It is the responsibility of the seller to get the package to the buyer regardless of what happens with the postal service. Insurance and DC are for the seller's benefit, not the buyer's.
Korbiaka was prepared to offer a full refund even though the USPS was totally at fault. If you are a seller and don't insure your packages you have to be prepared to offer this kind of service to your buyers. Buyers shouldn't have to pay $x price of knife + $x shipping + x% paypal fees + $x for insurance. Just add it up and put down your bottom line price that includes financial protection for yourself as a seller and all necessary costs for the buyer.
