Thats right, its 14" of 5160, ironwood, nessie goodness! My lady got me a BRKT golok and this for Valentine's Day and the Monster Nessie arrived on Friday. She knew I was looking at it for awhile and bought it here on BF from Dan K. This knife is BIG, its fairly fast in the hand for its size. I'm thinking that this might be a pack knife, the Lone Ranger (RD7) is about as a big I want to carry, but we'll see. In any case, I'll get it outside chopping and we'll see what she can do... I'm glad took my lady out for V-day dinner (I even let her Super-Size it!), or I'd be feeling guilty right now....

Man that is a beast! But probably the wrong tool for tattoo removal :D Nice knife and great wife.

I looked long and hard at that knife as well. Maybe soon. There is no knife that I like better than the Nessies. WHY? I don't know, just a flaw in my character I guess.;)

Yeah, its a big chopper I think. It does feel very much like a cleaver, you could chop a meth lab operator in half with a single swipe:D. Big Ox said of the Bark River Golok "its an 11' straight razor that every outdoorsman should own and it better have your full attention when you are wielding it", I feel that way about the NessieZilla already, I'm real attentive when it is in my hand. UDTJim, I'm willing to be flawed with you and like you a lot better for having not bought this nessie...:)

The wife is a definitely a keeper, she's not going anywhere (that paracord is pretty strong stuff..)

Anybody out there done any chopping with one of these?

A very unusaul combo...great knife and a wife who buys knives as presents!!

I think mine is the first one Dan made. So far it has been a safe queen....

Andy

Those are some great looking knives. I have been looking at getting a Koster knife for a while now...one day I will.

RickJ,

I don't what Dan is currently charging for the nessies, if you look back through this page you can get a sense:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=30&f=754

his pricing seems pretty reasonable.

Ceiw,

Yep, she's the right one for me..

Andrew C.,

That's a beauty. First one made, thats special! Maybe you could pick a beater model too....

Orrey45,

I haven't put it through its paces yet, but unless I'm missing something, I would recommend picking one up. There is just something about the way they feel.... Pull the trigger!

Those are gorgeous looking knives!

I'll be getting my first Koster in a few months. In the mean time, I'm getting ready to have a custom chopper made (9-10 inches) and I've been trying to make up my mind about the steel. 5160, 1095, A2...

Any thoughts from the voices of experience???

5160 or 1095 for me. If they are tough enough to hold up as leafsprings on cars and trucks, then they gotta be tough enough for chopping wood. A2 holds a nice edge, but the other two are a bit tougher.

Good LORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats sweet IMHO!

Love the pic with the 'for scale' item...

Rick,

There are guys here that know a lot more than I do, but I really like 5160 for big hard use knives (although I love my A2 Barkie as well)...
