Koster Monster Nessie!!

Andy,

Can't wait to get that nessie from you to go with it!!!!

HD,

No, I haven't. I took my daughters hiking yesterday and they are not interested in chopping... I promised my son that we will get it out this week, I'll post pics!

Hollowdweller,

Got out with my son when he came home today and did a little chopping. I started with a piece of hardwood (whacked on that wood, good and hard!), went to a pine limb and than to a 6" pine tree. Initial assessment; its a pretty mean chopper for a 14" , relatively light knife. The blade showed no damage when I finished, just the normal shiny spots when you look down at the edge, which are quickly sharpened away. I think its a good knife.

Thanks for the advice! How sharp would be ideal for a 5160 chopper? What grind??? Sorry for all the questions but I'd really like some input and I really love that knife you've got....

Rick,

My monster Nessie has a full flat grind (it actually has a very fine edge IMHO). I keep most of my knives shaving sharp, but for the big guys, I was always taught to sharpen until the edge is free of those shiny (read dull) spots when you look directly down at the edge in the in the light. Having said that, I do sometimes sharpen my Busse FBM to a shaving edge....
