Kydex and Blade Finishes!

Sheffield knifemakers has a product, call dura leather,"flexible, oil & water resistant, the best qualities of leather & kydex".It comes in a 8oz. thichness, somewhat to thick for a liner, but should be able to mill it down.

Hi Chiro...

Yes it is flexible like rubber.. True on the grit in some respects,, although it would depend on how well the grit hangs to it..

Allen has probably the best way of doing it..

Thanks for the chat Allen..

the only thing i can think of is, since it's a working knife, try putting a 320grt hand rubbed finish. it won't scratch easily, and i use it on knives that will be used for chopping. if it's stainless, and will take a really lot of abuse, i'll put a 220grt hand rubbed finish, and touch it up with metal polish, to give it a little luster, and more rust resistance.

Scott and Allen,
I will be in touch with you after the weekend. Those are both generous offers. I would like to be able to put the best finish as possible on my knives that are going into Kydex sheaths. I also have some Sumarium Colbalt magnets to use in sheaths. I have one permanantly stuck to the refrigerator! I cant pull it off and if I slide it, SCRATCH! They should hold a blade in a sheath. I think they will look funny under the Kydex Though!

I think Mr Blade is right about the kydex. I have a 2 yr old Ed Chavar stag handled neck knife with a mirror finish and it has no scratches. I have not used the knife hard but it has been in and out of the sheath at least a few hundred times.
