Kydex sheath, doe it matter who makes it?

Big fan of Buy Brown.

He has done all my aftermarket sheaths, and has a cool amount of busses and guns, so you typically don't have to send in you blade.

Plus he is a local guy!!!

I've noticed that some makers make sheatsh that do not scratch the blade. Others produce sheaths that make horrendous scratches, or wear off the coating.
That would be a deciding factor for me.

Blade rub is a bad thing. However, before judging the maker too harshly, bear in mind that all busse knives have slight variations in blade thickness. Even blades of the same 'run' can have slight variances. If the sheath maker's knife is slightly thinner than your knife, it may rub.

The point is, make sure you mic out your blade and notify the maker of the INFI thickness when you order a sheath. :)

... Buy Brown is good to but I find them too tight on the blade for me...

A couple of the ones I got from David were tight initially (at the handle, where they lock on, they don't rub the blade). However, after I'd left the knife in for a while, they relieved so that I no longer considered them too tight. It was probably a month between when I put a knife in the sheath and when I revisited it, so I'm not sure how long it really takes.

Even though Busses are CNC manufactured, there seems to be some variance from one to the next; my suspicion is that David sizes the handle attachment point a bit tight so that the sheath won't be too loose if you have a thin one, but it the sheath is tight, it'll loosen up after a while.

It really depends on your preferences. I carry a large blade daily, Mofo, Jackhammer, etc. The smaller the sheath the smaller the print, that's why I like taco style sheaths.

David has made some amazing sheaths for me. Mofo IWB in jeans and a t on a 150 lbs guy undetectable.

If I am choosing a Kydex pancake style, which I like for larger blades, I like Steelnuts best. His fit has always been excellent and I especially like his dropleg attachment. I have also received excellent kydex taco style from Buy Brown and Rainwalker.

In my expereience, and I make my own too, Brian/Okuden makes the best kydex, especially his large blade, scabbard type sheaths. Buy Brown can do some extremely artistic things, like his flame sheaths, that put him a step above too. Just my humble opinion.

i actually prefer leather and chuddy bear done my sheath for the killa z, he done an outstanding job.
when i buy kydex, i will utilize david, he is a topnotch guy, i had an opportunity to meet him at blade, he is big fellow with a big heart. good to know that he does holsters as well!!

steelnut is the man. He always does top notch work on my sheaths and did some cool open back designs for some of my latest knives.

If you want to tell sheaths apart, the best way to start is by asking. When someone posts a pic, ask them who made the sheath if they didn't say. Look carefully at how the knife is held near the top. Also rivets/grommets, how the edges are finished, the shape in relation to the blade, etc. etc.

Looking at sheaths doesn't get you very far. If you're in the market, pick one of the folks who have made sheaths that people like, and order one. You may be able to narrow it down on specific features - Okuden's sewn drop loop, Buy Brown flames, or something else. If you have any specific expectations (inverted carry, don't want it to scratch the blade, whatever) specifically ask and see if they can do it. Use the sheath once you get it, see what works and what doesn't work for you. Also, I think it's worth sending your knife to the maker. Since there are so many Busses with minor variations, you'll get a better fit that way.
