I am not the best judge of this as I dont have the experience to really give a good answer. My large hunter in 8670M is one of Gene Martin blanks that I bought when first starting out. I dont get to use it too often but it holds a great edge and seems to be very durable. I like it more then the D2 knife I have and it seems to be tougher then my current 1084 bench knife (which I also really like).

I have some 8670M coming from admiral that I am gonna play with, wanna forge a few blades out of it and see how I like them. I have one blade forged from L6 that I need to finish up when I have a chance and put it thru its paces but that is gonna be a little bit. My first blade in L6 I was primarily testing my HT on the steel to see how it came out. I am gonna use the same process on this next knife but finish it up completely then put it thru some test to see how I did. Ill do the same with the 8670M once I get my hands on it.

Lots of good teachers come out of Regent.

Plugging that bio info in your profile will let folks know a bit about who you are. Adding your location would tell a near by maker that he might want to give you an invite, or someone telling you of a great local event or supplier you would not know about.

I have used some 8670M in the past and it was a great steel..Id happily use it again..It got a little bit of a bad rap because Admiral was selling it for L6..It etches darker than L6 and people were not happy about that..Nothing at all wrong with the steel though..
Jamerolle, Id say you would never notice the difference in real world cutting between the two..Both great steels..Im sure you would be very happy with either..
