Laconico Integral 3.75" XLC

Fellas, this guy is even thinner than advertised! Same stock thickness as the EZC at .12 to my eyes. It’s listed at .125, the same as the EWC, but the EWC looks noticeably thicker to me. Someone with calipers can say for sure.

Anyway, everything seems to be dialed in perfectly on this bad boy. I’ll try to get some pics and comparison shots up soon.

For $300, this thing is a total steal.

With my digital calipers the EZC blade stock is 3mm at the ricasso and the EWC is 3.25mm. The inch measurements I've read are rounded up.

I'll be able to measure the XLC on Monday. The handle thickness of the EZC is 11mm and the EWC is 10.50mm. They may have been intended to be the same thickness but production tolerances (or different manufacturers) account for the difference.

My Shiro F3 blade stock is nominally 4mm but measures at 3.85mm at the ricasso. A 3mm thick blade on the 3 3/4"/95mm XLC would make a very fine slicer.

Tried to order this XLC but, at the checkout, the country drop-down list only show USA and Canada.
Bad luck for me living in France :mad::mad:

Edit : Problem solved by a direct contact with Sanford Owen from Monterey Bay Knives.
Amazing to see him taking care of his clients even on Sunday. Big thanks

I don't need another knife, I don't need another knife, I don't need another knife... Oh well.

Sanford has the best CS I've come across in the knife biz.

This showed up three days early! Fit & finish are amazing, action is smooth, and blade is centered. My wife's kitchen scales puts it at 4.06 oz; compared to the Keens 4.23 oz.

And a couple comparison pics beside the Keen.

Or is it, if you'd have one of these, would you need the Keen?

Get out of my head!
I actually don't carry my keen often. It's a sweet knife, but I have others I like better.

This XLC looks awesome though. I might have to check one out.

As much respect as I have for Ray Laconico as a knife designer I believe he missed the boat with the XLC.

I had one reservation when reading the specs on this one, and it is born out with one example in hand. The EZC simply does not scale up to this size without becoming unwieldy. IMHO, it would have a been a smash success if it were an in between size. Perhaps with a 3.3" blade/85mm.

As it is, the XLC is larger than the Keen and both are too big for me to EDC. I have a Shiro HatiOn Lite for that, and a Jens Anso Neo on the way.

Nah. Laconico has plenty of “in between” sized designs. That’s actually his predominate size range, over 3” but under 3.5”. (Jasmine, anyone?)

Doing one knife that’s actually larger is a good thing. Gives options for those who want them. And if you actually handle one you’d see that it actually scales very well to a larger size. Very comfortable in hand in use, and very slim for easy carry in pocket.

No boats were missed in the production of this particular knife.

If Ray is developing his EZC line he'll need a middle-sized model to complete it.

The XLC production is excellent. Snappy release. Clean detent. Exemplary fit and finish. My criticism is the design is oversized with its 3 3/4" blade. It's Goldilocks; one is too small. the other too big. One in the middle would be just right.

My comment is borne of a personal preference for 85mm to 90mm drop point and spear point blades in folders to EDC.

My hope is that the Anso Neo I have incoming will check all of the boxes for me. If it does, a bunch of nice folders will be posted for sale by summer.

A mid sized version would be a great addition to the line. The MSC (Medium Sized Carry), perhaps? :D

I ordered one of these last night thanks to all the positive buzz in this thread. Eagerly awaiting my shipping email, haha.

I have been really pleased with my EWC so I bet I'm going to like this model fairly well.

I’m torn between this and the Quietcarry Drift...Thoughts?

The Drift has a 2.98-inch blade, or 75mm. The XLC is about 3.75-inch or 95mm. The EZC has a 75mm blade.

The draw of the Drift is that it uses Vanax SC. (I don't find the design particularly inspired; to me, it looks like someone took a Voxnaes framelock and removed the flipper.)
The draw for the XLC is that it's a large, Laconico-designed integral.
