Laconico Integral 3.75" XLC

Just got my XLC today and there’s lock slip...o_O:eek:. Has anyone else tested theirs or noticed it? I felt it soon as I gripped it — could hear the lock bar bounce back out after being pushed in from my palm.

Is the XLC made by Reate or by Kizer?

It’s not made by one specific Chinese company, but different parts are done by a variety of OEMS, with final QC and assembly being done by MBK. Or at least, that’s what I’ve understood from Sanford’s description.

I will say that the build quality and hardware on this one look very very similar to Reate, at least to me.

Work it a little bit, maybe it will seat after a few cycles.
Not so much that it can't be returned though.

I've been having a string of knife purchases lately that have ridiculous levels of slip!
My latest was just a tap and would fall shut...and that was after I asked the seller about the light lock-up!
I should have shipped it back but I had it repaired, all is well now.

Thanks, I’ll give that a try. Appreciate it! Have a good day!

The MBK products I've seen feel more like Reate, or maybe WE, than Kizer. But there hasn't been any statement from MBK, Sanford or Ray regarding which particular OEM(s) they use.

Where do you buy these? MBK's

You can only buy them direct from Monterey Bay Knives.

Can someone please post what the handle thickness is on this (preferably in inches)?

Thanks in advance.

Did you get this issue squared away?

I am just loving my XLC. Outstanding flipping action and rock solid lockup.

The draw of the Drift is that it uses Vanax SC. (I don't find the design particularly inspired; to me, it looks like someone took a Voxnaes framelock and removed the flipper.)
The draw for the XLC is that it's a large, Laconico-designed integral.

I have both knives and they're very different. The Drift is all about practicality - not at all showy. It's a very slim, sub-3" slicer designed to be completely rust-proof.

The XLC is a lot larger and more refined - it's a study in clean knife design, and puts that before ergonomics, but is still very usable, and the spear-point blade from 1/8 stock will be more versatile than the very thin Drift blade. It also has a design element I've never seen before - an integral stop pin.

So get the Drift if you really want a very slim-line EDC in Vanax. But get the XLC for all-round fondling and admiration as a piece of functional art, which also makes it better value for the price, in my opinion.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Laconico Jasmine? I haven’t found much online about.
