Our daughter helped me fix a couple of things on my computer and then helped me out a little bit in photoshop.
She also gave her approval to the new Bowie.:)

Right now the model balances right in front of the guard. It's so close it's actually hard to determine for sure where the exact balance point is.
We can only hope to be so fortunate or as lucky, or left to my educated guess which sometimes actually works out.:)

The next step is some finish sanding and then some paint to help stabilize the soft wood for its trip to Nepal. Perhaps after the 1st of the year we will all be getting our H.I.Scagel(style)Southwestern Bowie.;)

To give an idea of size the handle length in the center and running from right in front of the guard to the end of the tang is 7 1/4" inches!!!!
The guard itself is 4 5/8" inches long!!!!

What do y'all think now?:D

BEAUTY!!:D Nice work Yvsa! I'm gonna have to sell my blood, but I'm gonna get one of these one way or the other:D

Uncle, do we have an estimated price on this one yet?

Is there a utilitarian reason that the traditional style of Bowie has the sort of round clip point? I always figured it would be easier to make if it was in a straight line. There has to be some reason.

I like it. Might have to get one myself :D

Yvsa,
Nice design. If you allready answered these questions in another thread, then I apologize.
What is the blade length going to be, and how thick is the blade going to be?

Thanks,
Randy

Also, is the back side of the clip point going to be sharpened or is it going to be a false edge?

Thanks guys!!!!!! I'm glad to see it so well accepted!!!! I will post one more pic when it's ready to send to Uncle Bill. This gives a record in the H.I.Forum for people who come after us if they're interested in when things happened as well as for us old pharts who's memories aren't as good as they once was.;)

Bruise to answer your question the best I know how........

The reverse radius clip point is like some of the knifes some of the folder companies are making, the curved blade sharpened on the inside curve.
I'm not much of a folder guy.....
Isn't Spyderco's called the "harpy" or something like that? The one Hannibal made famous or infamous?
Anyway....

The shape of the clip makes for one helluva back cut!!!! Where an opponent may slip sideways away from a straight clip the radius just digs deeper when an opponent would try that maneuver.
The first Bowie may have been much like a huge butcher knife, but it did evolve into one of the finest fighting knives ever thought up by mere mortals.
And it's America's own knife as well.
To me this particular design is what best describes a "Real Bowie."
The only improvement that could be made for me is just to have a slight more belly.
But that would have meant another start over and I just wasn't willing to do another one and it will also help the others who prefer the skinny bladed Bowies.
It isn't much of a compromise, but it is a little one and in the end I think we will all be happy with the final result.:)

Thanks Randy!!!!

No problem. The blade is 13" inches long. Overall is 20"+ a fraction.
The blades gonna be around 5/16" inch thick.
And the clip will definitely be sharp!!!!
This will or should be a fully utilitarian Bowie knife designed to do what Bowie knives do best. FIGHT!!!!!!:D

Nice work, bro'. Looks formidable!

I can't wait to see the real thing, it's gonna be a monster of a bowie.

Ryan

Great looking knife, Yvsa:D . I don't even like bowies very much and I really like this one!

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if we sent you to Nepal to talk with the kamis personally. I think we'd end up with a dozen or so new designs and every one of them would be awesome.:)

I hope they don't "improve" it and turn it into a khukuri.
!

Bro do you really think the kamis would do anything to upset their American Indian, so what, now let us get back to work, friend????;) :p :)

I think if Sanu, Bura or any of the older guys who know me get a hold of the knife to make they will do an exemplary job!!!! They have so far for certain. Any improvements made are generally a real improvement and something I hadn't thought of.:)

I can however see them moving the tang down to the center of the blade if they're maybe not instructed to leave it where it's at, that it's there on purpose.
That's the 1st thing my b-i-l commented on when he 1st saw the model. He said, "The tang is too high and the handle is off center!!!!"
I had to explain to him that that was the Scagel influence on the knife and part of its appeal.
At least it is too me.

Many Thanks Guys!!!!!!! It just pleases me that it's getting such a good reception!!!!:D
I should have the finished model all painted up and ready to go before long. I may wait and let Uncle Bill take a pic of it with his poopy camera as it's sorta difficult to line up 2 photos that way.
And by doing that Bro could lay a yardstick or tape measure alongside for scale.
I don't think a cigarette lighter would do in this case.;)
