After downing some coffee, and asprin to combat last nights birthday binge, I gathered up some gear and headed to the Lamine river for some hiking, and to review the HWK+.

Weather was chilly, mid 30s, and windy. I had a great time, and enjoyed getting out for awhile, I havent got to get out in the woods for a bit.

There was an abundance of natural tinder around, so I grabbed some for a fire.

River had a small layer of ice on it.

The one. My go to blade. The HWK+.

The woods are colorless this time of year. I miss the green, but not the bugs.

Alot of Deer moving through here, saw alot of fairly fresh tracks, and some older ones.

Place to cross the river

Looks like a good place for a fire.

Now time for some tea and fire play.

More to come......

Nice pics and kit. I love the river shots and that blade looks like a mean slicer given the geometry. How does it slice?

Lots of downed wood around meant the HWK+ got a nice litte workout. Not a problem this thing took it all great. What a comfy knife, no hotspots, and just eats wood all day long. Rays edges are something to smile about. Very sharp.

The natural tinder lit up great with my RAT firestarter, and getting a nice little fire going was a piece of cake.

Tea and a smoke. Nothing better on a cold day on the trail.

packed up and moved further up river after putting out the fire.

Sat down and fuzzed out on the stick I used to baton the firewood. Even after all the splitting, this thing still curls wood like nobodys bussiness. Not bad for a 3/16 knife thats never been resharpened huh?

Looped around and headed back, not a bad day at all.:)

Now THAT is a nice knife. Are you still hungover enough to mail to me for your birthday? ;)

Has anyone noticed how I try this trick with EVERY knife review.. You guys have COOL toys!

J - what kind of cup and bottle holder system do you have for that nalgene? - looks NICE

TF

Thats the Guyot designs Nalgene stainless bottle, GSI glacier cup, and maxpedition bottle holder, with cocoon pouch and shoulder strap, in foliage. Its my go to kit for short hikes and woods play. I love it, Im taking it bird hunting next weekend. Very vell made, compact kit. It holds alot of gear!!

Uh, thats a negitive on the knife ghost rider. Nice try though.;)

Great pics bro.

Your HWK looks great man! Nice job on the fire as well.

That place looks nice, whats up, no snow in Misery?

Thanks man, it looks like it got a beat down right now, needs cleaned up and stropped something fierce.:D

No snow over an inch yet. Wouldnt stay anyways. It was 70 degrees saturday, and 28 degrees sat night. 45 on sunday, 30s today. Its been very weird weather this winter.

Great pics! And I really love that Laconico, that larger HWK looks about as perfect as you can get.
