Land Navigation, Map and Compass Tutorial and Hand Out (LINK NOW ADDED!)

Blackhills,

The reason we teach not to change it is simple. Declination changes from area to area. Let's say you have 14 degrees declination in one state but travel and end up using a map with 10 degrees declination. If you forget to change it, you will end up off track. I know I am forgetful and I like this method because of that. There are other methods out there and you need to find what works for you. We've had excellent feedback from students over the years using this method. It is simple and that is fine with me.

Thanks Kevin, I was just curious as to your reasoning behind it. Like you said you have to find what works for you.
