Landi Knives - suspicion of fraud

FYI, i'm on his email list and he sent out an email today with some new offerings.

Fraud is a pretty strong word for a supplier who is very slow in shipping but responding to your inquries. I would encourage all to be firm but objective and reasonble when it comes to dealing with suppliers.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I've been waiting close to a year on Landi knives that were "in the next batch". I haven't gotten a reply to my emails since 6/5.

I can be as patient as Job, just keep me in the loop or answer when I ask WTF is taking so long.

I'm waiting now two years and half but I think he will come through.
I have made a full payment for the knives.
Now I'm more reluctant to do this, I would now probably ask for pictures before making a final payment

I don't mind these guys reinventing themselves after they've trashed their rep around here, but if they can still make knives for someone else, they can clean up their debts and make knives for guys who have already paid.

I have bought about 8 - 10 knives from John over the past 5 - 6 years. He has always delivered what he promised in a timely manner. I hate that you guys have experienced problems. I hope John gets back on an even keel and rebuilds his reputation. Unfortunately it takes a long time to build a good reputation and a short time to spoil it.

the deal site gearhog.com recently had a landi knife deal. believe it was a bull maverick for $150. great looking knife. I almost pulled the trigger.

An update.
I ordered two A2 kinzuas in 2010, fully paid in 2011.
Last mail I got from him was may 6 2014, he said he was putting the scales on the two knives.
Now we are almost two months later and no reply to my mails.
It's getting frustrating ;)

The good news is he still had contact once in a while over those 4 years, so I still hope I'll receive the knives in the end.

I ordered a custom from John some years back, I would not do business with him ever again. He lied to me on more than one occasion, my knife was almost finished, my knife was finished, my knife shipped, or his wife shipped my knife, none of which were true. Asking for a refund with an ultimatum finally got him to get me my knife. When my custom finally arrived it was obviously rushed to completion and was less than satisfactory. After I discarded his terrible sheath and straightened his horrible grind I had a knife I could use.

Moving around to other forums and not responding in his defense to threads like this cements what kind of maker he is in my eyes.

Trust comes on foot and leaves on horses!

I hope those who are waiting are made even by John. I recently received a response to my email on a knife he built (and I owned) two years from the date I sent it.

He is making knives for dealers. I saw a new batch listed at Collectorknives (BF sponsoring dealer) a month or so ago.

Yes begin June he sent A2 kinzuas to some dealers, I was thinking he was putting the scales on my two A2 Kinzuas when he was doing that batch.

Without going into details, please don't use the fact that we sold some Landi knives as an indicator of future credibility for them. We have since discontinued all interaction. Their knives are great, but that is such a small part of a successful business relationship these days.

We have a similar experience as Mike. We have some of Landi's knives. They are, indeed, great knives.

We have also discontinued the line. (so there are actually some pretty good deals to be had on them)

I have found John to have integrity even if he doesn't answer emails promptly or deliver as promised. He has made everything right with us. It took a couple years, but all is well.

Integrity is not the word I would use, he may be a fantastic individual but once you start lying to your customers integrity is gone in my opinion. I hope he has changed, I used to like some of his designs. I would not do business with him again unless it was in person and the knife was absolutely done where I could inspect it, even then unlikely. There are plenty of makers out there who keep their word.
