Lanyard hole for 2013

Reminder about the Congress Jack

Mike

I don't really want another wharncliffe this year, sorry guys! I really like that sheepsfoot up there though!

My issue with a sheepsfoot main on the Congress is that when the knife is closed the top edge of the sheepsfoot doesn't follow the curve of the Congress, creating a bulge at the butt end. On another note, what about O1 as the blade steel?

Agree on 440C Frank.
As for burnt stag, I'm not a fan of stag myself
But everything else in the picture I posted (bolsters, shield, blade shapes) looks great to me :)

except both blades need to be on the same end!!!!

Just wanted to say the 2013 knife needs a lanyard hole :D That's all folks.

I will buy one regardless of pattern if it has a lanyard hole. Bail is nice too.
Stainless would be good, especially if it is a pattern that might see food prep use.
I am looking forward to seeing what happens :D

Ed,
you're obviously right; I thought I had made my point clear on both blades on the same end (otherwise, it wouldn't be a Congress Jack, would it?)
Mike,
thank you for posting that picture again. On one side, it's probably not realistic to use it as a model (I'm afraid no BF knife will ever be commissioned to Ryu Kawamura :D) but, on the other hand, that's exactly the pattern we should have in mind when choosing the 2013 BF knife.
Josh,
unfortunately I don't have a picture of the Northfield #61 closed, but if I remember well, it doesn't form much of a bulge on one side. If anyone owns one, pictures are welcome :)

Folks...it's time to vote for the shield

I like everything about Ryu's knife (above), including the shield!

I agree with Charlie. That is one awesome knife. Even a simple bar shield would look good on that pattern. We do need to do a stainless like 440c, or even a semi stainless like D2 though.

I just thought it might look nice. I'm not really picky about shields though. D2 would be nice, maybe with the new ownership Queen would be a good choice.

One of the reasons I like the sheepsfoot as the secondary blade is that removes a lot of the blade height (over the top of the scales when closed) issues and makes for a slimmer pattern. If the knife has a bail that's not a problem, but then it's more of a rope cutter than I'd care for.

I also want to thank you all for the photo of that pearl CJ. That shot a hole in my budget this month.

Congress jack with bail, 440c and light colored covers. :D Sounds awesome. If you all would want I've spoke to Ryan a few times since they bought Queen and if we go that route I wouldn't mind making contact for you all. Am I signing up for this again? Its a long hard process but oh so fun.

Gary,
I agree with Charlie as well, and I also agree that a simple bar shield, or the "Northfield" shield, would work fine on this frame.
As for the sheepsfoot secondary...
Since I entered the wonderful world of multiblades, I knew I would prefer a curved main blade and a straight secondary, for a number of reasons. But on this very pattern, I don't want to change a thing from the knife posted by Mike above (apart from the handle material maybe - either way, I guess stag would not be the first option for our knife).
The frame, blade shapes, both on the same end, both nicks on the mark side, long pull on the sheepsfoot, wraparound/extension spring on the pen blade, "treated" bolsters, shield...to my eyes, the closer we can get, the better the knife will be.

Now that I think about it, we've got a couple knives with Wharnies already. A sheepsfoot Congress Jack like Mike's pic with Micarta (or G10) scales (Ivory or not) would be excellent. Lanyard hole would be better than a bail, but either would be nice. 440C or something like that would be good, too.
