Lanyard ideas !

Sadly I can't braid or do anything with lanyards so I just buy em.

willing to learn when I order some paracord.

having a lanyard totally helps wave opening , keeps your fingers clear .
i ghetto wave a my work knives , used my tenacious like that for a few years now .
a bright cord can help you locate your tool also a plus .

Yeah dose anyone know a good splice for paracord ?

I don't think there is a splice that would work for paracord since it frays way too easily. Melting or super glue is about the only way I know, with melting being my most used.

For those interested in learning, YouTube is a wonderful resource, with one channel TIAT having some of the easiest to follow videos. He is also the author of a few ebooks like Paracord Fusion Ties Vol 1 and 2. I don't have any photos of my lanyards and key fobs, but will take a couple tomorrow to show.

As promised, here is a snap of some different key fobs and knife lanyards I've made. The monkey fists on the left, namely the single colored one, are some of my first, with the far left being my first dual colored one. They have glass marble "shooters" as a core. I have gotten much better and more consistent with my monkey fists since then. I now use either a 1" steel ball or 1" wooden ball as a core, depending on whether weight is a factor. My wife and young daughters have wooden core fists on their keys because they didn't want the extra weight. The orange globe knot lanyard at the top has a small glass marble as a core. The silver beads seen on a few of the lanyards were bought in the jewelry making section at Hobby Lobby. They have some really nice beads for women, but not too many that a guy would want to carry around. Anyway, here's the photo.

Here's a link to the full size image if you want to take a closer look at the detail for potential ideas.

Nice work ! I like the black green combo on the sabenza .
I think a bright lanyard can make a knife more people friendly,
For those non knife folks .
Also some countrys have concealed carry laws that require knives
To be visable on your belt / pocket .
I must get some brighter cord !

What's the knot style on the black and green combo that's not attached to anything? I could never figure that one out.

If you're referring to the lanyard beside the large Sebenza, that's just a four strand round braid, also called a crown sinnet if I'm not mistaken. It's finished off with a diamond knot followed by a lanyard knot

bradlox, where did you find the stormtrooper bead, you are using?

I stole it from my lads lego box popped it off the head and drilled a hole through it
Rocking it on my boker trance as a work knife.. Paint on the helmet
Is really durable , i thought it would wear off but its passed the test of time .

Exactly what I thought you did! That is a $20 lego these days online, and by some, considered a collectors item. It was from a 2001 lego set.

indeed. what did you use to drill it? and i'm guessing that's paracord?

where did you obtain that leather used for the other beads?

i dont recall what size drill bit i used , the leather came from different sources ....just pulled out some nice leather cord from an old pair of slippers yesterday .
my local leather supplier has a scrap bin , ive used some bits from there .
a buddy of mine says he "skinned " a couch last week and got some good stuff !

Very nice, Ted! Can you tell me where you got those clips that are on many of your lanyards? The one that looks like it's attached with a piece of metal with two holes in it. What about your beads? Many look like the ones I've seen at Hobby Lobby, but the solid metal ones I haven't seen before.

Medic1210,

I have a couple of those snap clips. Got them at a boat/marine shop. PM me and I can give you the names of a couple of on line places that sell them. They are a very good design. The gate is a very clever use of a torsion bar, which minimizes the metal fatigue, so they last a looooooooong time. That is one of the design factors that attracted me to them. I've seen other types of snap clips fail when one of the spring components fail from fatigue.

The S biners use a similar gate set up, but they don't look as robust.

The one I have on my key ring is over 30 years old and still very useable. Mine doesn't have a stamp indicating what type os SS it is made from. I think it's 316L.

I have some of the small ones that have been in use for several years without any problems.

-Sorry for the long wait for a reply. The lanyard is composed of two opposing overhand knots tied around the other and a common part; work the knots closed and jam them into one another, trim the ends and finish them with a butane lighter or some sparingly applied Krazy Glue. The knot(s) will slide along the common part varying the sizes of the loops. When hitched, as in the top photo, the sliding is arrested:
