Medic1210,

I have a couple of those snap clips. Got them at a boat/marine shop. PM me and I can give you the names of a couple of on line places that sell them. They are a very good design. The gate is a very clever use of a torsion bar, which minimizes the metal fatigue, so they last a looooooooong time. That is one of the design factors that attracted me to them. I've seen other types of snap clips fail when one of the spring components fail from fatigue.

The S biners use a similar gate set up, but they don't look as robust.

The one I have on my key ring is over 30 years old and still very useable. Mine doesn't have a stamp indicating what type os SS it is made from. I think it's 316L.

I have some of the small ones that have been in use for several years without any problems.

Ric

Thanks for the info. Can you post the links here or post the name I would need to google to find them online? I have some of the small keychain size Nite Ize S-biners, but I'd like something smaller like those in the photo.

Nice ! Black and copper look great together .
Im gonna dig around my hardware stores !

Those ferrules are called olives in the U.K., that one looks like brass the copper ones are getting hard to find in my area. They are used in 1/4" compression joints.
I use a lot of M6 Stainless steel nuts, half nuts and washers A2 (T304) or A4 (T316) grade stainless, A4 is more corrosion resistant from salt water (sweat), I also get shackles and carabiners from the same supplier.

Medic1210,

I don't think i can post the vendors for the clips, they are on the approved/registered vendors list. PM me and I can send you the info.

just wanted to share this one , its a quick release snap shackle .
i used one for years on my key fob to hook to my belt loop .
kinda heavy and a bit pricey ,it made for a very easy and fast one handed
key grabbing / putting away . found at all marine chandlerys .

pretty stoked on this lanyard i just finished up .
its a splice in some braided nylon-type of cord , i dont know if you can do this with paracord
as the weave is so tight .?
anyways worked out pretty good i think ,
i made sure part of the tail that goes in to itself ended up in the the oysterman knot at the end
so no need for whipping twine . feels very secure .
bead is antique handmade glass .
you need some type of fid to do this kinda splice . i used a permaloc .
anyways hope you like .....

Sadly I can't braid or do anything with lanyards so I just buy em.

willing to learn when I order some paracord.

They now sell paracord at Lowes (grayish black, USA made), and at Walmart (black, Chinese made I believe). The stuff at Walmart is very inexpensive.

There are a ton of good tutorials on YouTube, which is where I learned many of the knots I've used. I made a rig to make tying easier. Just a 2'x4" poplar board with a eye bolt and tension clip at either end. Makes tying much easier than trying to hold it all together. May help to make ruler marks down the board too for easy measuring.

Loving the leather lanyards guys! I've got a couple of custom fixed blades coming. Looking for inspiration, so all pics are appreciated. :)

The link just worked for me, it is for access to "The Ashley Book of Knots".

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=ashley+book+of+knots

The Walker can be tied of two strands.
It still doesn't work for me, just gives me a search result for Ashley's book, i.e. a bunch of sales & Wikki sites.
That may be because I'm in Australia, some sites are geographically constrained, but usually they say so in the page that pops up.
I shall try to work it out myself.

mtangent,

Try this link for a 2 strand Mathew walker knot: http://www.atwoodknives.com/home/16390018.php

This Youtube clip is pretty good, it shows a 4 strand Matthew Walker knot.

I hope these links work for you.

I just remade a key lanyard that uses a couple of the 4 strand knots. they look pretty neat when you use different colors together. You can also make them with a right hand or left hand spiral (think: left and right handed threads).

I first learned the two strand knot not realizing that it can be done with multiple strands. The multi strand ones took me a bit longer to figure out. I didn't have the benefit of the YouTube video. I've made them with up to 8 strands.

I found using different colored strands/cords when learning helped me keep track of the strands.

Buying an Ashley gives you every two strand lanyard&multi-strand knot&button imaginable, let alone years of contented browsing.
