As dumb as lanyards are and how I bashed them earlier... I was rooting through my toolbox for some electrical connectors and I found something that I hate to admit would make a perfect lanyard. Something my sister made 15+ years ago, gold-skull bead and all.

I will rope it onto my Zaan when the scales come back from cerakote and we will see if I can keep it on for more than a day.

To further my point earlier... please note that it was made by a girl ;)
Please post a update in this thread and let me know. I bet 20 bucks you won't even make it the full day! :D

Generally, I do not use a lanyard. The only exception is kayaking, where I feel better having a lanyard on a folder to prevent losing the knife.

Otherwise, I feel like it just gets in my way.

Even then it’s not like your taking a Hinderer or CRK on the river with you, am I right? Just feels like a “fashion statement” to me when it’s on something like that.

I don't see it as a "fashion statement". I think it goes more towards pride of ownership.
What's so wrong with making your nice things look nicer? For me, my knives are the nicest things I have!:)

No problem with that. Just my option my friend. I buy a knife as a tool and as something I intend to use. Some get used “harder” than others but I’m not trying to bedazzle my knives and make them all flashy.

I must admit though..I’m having custom wood scales made for my GB2 just because Spyderco are cheap a$$es and their “carbon fiber” scales blowwwwww

View attachment 777546 To me a lanyard is a loss prevention thing. When I am using the knife, I want the lanyard out of the way. Hence the quick release push pin lanyard.
Wait so the pin for example: on the CRK goes into the "lanyard" spot and when you go to use the knife.. you just pop it out huh? Seems like a lot of work but I imagine it works well for the intended purpose. Thanks for the pic man!

I agree with the OP that I typically don't bring expensive things that sink when I'm canoeing/kayaking. That's partly why I choose knives that typically cost less than $100. I've lost knives before.

I made this lanyard yesterday, just because of this thread.

A buddy gave me a skull bead for some reason, and I had an extra Harley Quinn head, so I made this:

Now my hand won't slip while battling the zombie hordes, or whatever other reason I might possibly need a lanyard on a folder for. :D

THAT is just off the charts stabman

Exactly! When will people learn the correct terminology for parts of their knives?!?
Forget it. I'm about ready to start using lower end layman's terms for this stuff. Ya got a loop type of thing for putting the knife around your wrist or you've got a knotted up piece of military cord with a blinged up skull on it. Those are your tactical knife attachment options.

You gonna use those for all knife terms? Start calling choils "round blade cut thingies" and locks "blade holder openers"? :D

Well, mine goes around the wrist and has a skull on it.
And a Harley Quinn head, naturally.

So there. :p

I can’t wait to put a fobyard on the tail butt of my knife for secure access when I engage my cutting tool of choice!

Makes perfect sense.

Occasional fob-with-clip user here. I've never liked the feeling of a knife loose in the bottom of my pocket.

It keeps me from carrying most of my traditionals unless they fit comfortably in my jeans change pocket.

Or the ruler pocket...
