Large 12inch + recurve chopper recommendations

How about an AXE or HATCHET to chop with instead of a knife?
It'll last a LOT longer.

I have axes and hatchets too, but also have large knife choppers. I've just about chopped down a forest with a BK9 and it shows no sign of lasting less longer than a hatchet or axe. Actually, I'm on a mission to see if I can break this thing under some batoning. I have failed miserably so far.

Some folks like axes/hatchets, some like large knife choppers, and some like both.

To me axes or hatchets would be a lot more dangerous to swing then a large chopper knife. Though I wouldn't use a chopper to make firewood either. Vica versa if your in thick brush in the forest or jungle I wouldn't want a axe to cut through bush, I'd want a chopper knife. I guess just a matter of what tool will do what task you are wanting better.

How much curve is your minimum? Because a Khukuri House Mukti is an awesome huge chopper with basically a belly, a Condor Golok would be the same at much lighter

Large recurve chopper, but not a khukuri? Why not? They're hard to beat when chopping. Try to find a Becker Patrol Machete maybe, except it may be too thin.

I’ll second the Busse Basic Bolo 13. They come up on the exchange once in awhile, in either sr101(BG) or infi(CG) —the infi model is about $100 more. For a busse, very reasonably priced, and a great chopper at any price. 13” blade, perfect handle geometry.

Is infi THAT much bettrr than sr101? This would be a user. The zt parabellum is awesome but i would preffer the 13” on the busse.

I believe the infi model is a little bit thicker and tougher, though sr101 is no slouch either. Busse makes swords from sr101 so I would imagine it would serve your needs just as well—though infi is a little bit more stain resistant. My CG BB13 holds its edge longer than an axe, even on hardwoods.

Might go with the sr101 for the thinness. I think we have a winner. I was trying to resist, but this is the knife that started this thread!
Thanks for all the input, i know have more knives on my list for sure!

Ths Khukri is INFI (I stripped the coating off, but have never bothered polishing it).
The Hawk and the straight edged chopper (War Train Fusion) is SR101
SR101 is fantastic from Busse. The steel is supposed to be modified 52100 with their proprietary heat treat (which is extensive, including a lengthy cryo treatmenr). The steel is a fantastic steel before their process.

Infi is basically stainless. I have both. I've chopped and abused both. Really, would take either without hesitation. If I was going to the jungle, the Infi would be easier to maintain, by far.

The Condor Jungolo is pretty excellent. Has a very nice distal taper to it that makes it very lively in hand.
