Hi folks,
Coop out did himself with this image, so I thought everyone would like to see. First are some in progress shots, followed up by Coop's image.

13.75" blade forged from a 1.75"x2" piece of W2. Crazy hamon, Damascus fittings, fossil walrus ivory and a gold pin. 19" OAL.

I had as much fun with this piece as any I've ever made, hope it shows :D Thanks Much to the new owner and Coop also.

Thanks for looking.

It still amazes me each time I see these beautiful tools/works of art created from a crude piece of steel stock. Could be one of the most dramatic transformations in all art medium.

I've just been following your work the last year and a half, however believe this could rank among your very best work to date.

Isn't that the beautiful piece of ivory you purchased at a show a few months ago and posted up photos?
Five thumbs up for this beautiful piece.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Great Great knife. I love it. The hamon is really unique and can not be missed, great handle too

Don, that is one great looking knife and hamon. Is there a special name for what is happening in the hamon?:thumbup:

That is just amazing Don!!!

Did it turn out the way you planned it, or was this a "fortuitous surprise" ?

(the hamon, I mean, not the knife, of course!)

Bill

oh, one more thought -

Dang, that is alot of knife from that piece of W2 - of course, I guess it helps to have a power hammer...otherwise you're asking for rotator cuff or elbow problems!!!:D

Bill

Thanks, Guys!

Kevin, I do believe this piece of ivory was in a photo a while back. probably came for the Blade show.

Chuck, name for the hamon? Not that I'm aware of, Crazy comes to mind.

Bill, I was VERY surprised when I first laid eyes on it and almost re-heat treated this blade but am glad I didn't now :)

Shadow Warrior

as Lithe and fluid as they come ..details that will enjoy a lifetime of discovery
Don is a Hard Rocker
Fantastically captured By Coop.......

A definite "Wow" knife! Beautiful, thanks for the posting.

I might just have to quit making knives after seeing this one Don.

Good Lord....

<> Stunning

<> Gorgeous

<> Perfect blend of materials

<> Ultimate use of top end elements- smoke'n hamon, great pattern for
fittings, out of this world ivory.

<> Damn!!!

Don fantastic piece I have a question alot of your big fighter bowie's have sort of a recurve blade I am curious as to if you just like this style or do you think it adds a performance advantage. Nothing negative here just want to learn. thanks

Man-O-Man!
You are going to have to work real hard to top that one!

Guys, You ALL know a photo is only a two-dimensional capture. This one has more to offer.... :)

Question to Don: In the third photo above I see the bar drawn out from the power hammer.

Do you do the remaining shaping by hand at that point, or are you really that skillful with a power hammer? The fourth and fifth photos have the basic shape and profiles forged in.

Asked like the forging newbie I am.... ;)

Coop

Beautiful blade! Love the story that all the images together tell.

Joe P. I like the recurve style and they are wicked cutters, I do also make bowies with no recurve but on these I like a loooong pointy clip.

Coop, I do 95% of the forging with my old 100lb Little Giant, I do a little with hammer and anvil but have learned to do most under the power hammer. More difficult but faster.

I couldn't figure out how to take pics while I was forging. Next time will have Tina snap some action shots to fill in the blanks.

Thanks again all,
