Large Fighter Crazy hamon

Thanks from my end for the photo compliments. This was the second of two attempts. My first submission had no insets and was muddy. Wrong background, the blade had some residual oil spots on it, etc.

Both the new owner and Don sent me notes in private, and with the most gentlemany of prodding allowed that I could do better. And.... they were right. Sometimes it's hit or miss, and I had strike one....

One visual 'trick' I played on this is the handle inset. It's real and untouched on the background, but what makes this visually uncommon? You look and tell me. ;)

Here are a couple fill in photos for Coop's question about my forging. Different blade but the same process.

Kevin: It was so bad I actually deleted all the images on this end. :p

Stephen F: No.

billf, butchesforge: Pretty close...

If you follow the blade out beyond the photo, it would bury itself into the background. I propped the background paper up on a 3" box, and let the blade tip rest on the table and the edge up on the box. That way I could get the perspective of the marrow of the bone and retain the correct shadow without being 6" off the background.

I also used a fill light from the RH side to illuminate that handle and I had two mirrors redirecting light at the guard.

Kabish? It only looks easy..... ;)
