large folder for general abuse

I had posted earlier with some general knife info and got some good info. I just want some recommendation on a "large folder" knife for general abuse. I will use it for everyday use and take the brunt of the use instead of some of my smaller folders.

So far I only kinda like the SOG Spec Elite II....any other ones out there that I should look into? I do want a folder and not a fixed, mostly since I donʻt wanna carry a fixed most of the time.

This might do.

the Boker Turbine Forum w/ X 15 T.N., it has G 10 inlay, X 15 is a french steel that was developed for jet engine ball bearings. this knife can take some abuse.

I've been using a Cold Steel American Lawman and a Recon 1 as beaters and I'm quite happy with them. At first I didn't think I'd ike them; I didn't think AUS8 was good enough, didn't like that they are made in Taiwan and I had a bit of a bias against CS. But they are great hard use knives, simple and rugged. For $ 50-60, they rock.

The ZT 0300 is another tough folding knife I love. Everything about it is great, except that I find it too bulky to carry everyday (although this depends a lot on the type of clothes you wear).

sorry....I really should have been a little more specific. Folders between 4-5" blade length, and under $250. I have used the ZT knife before, very nice, but looking for something a bit longer.

I'd say definitely the Cold Steel Recon 1. I've had mine for a few months now and I'm very pleased with it. Grippiest g10 I've handled, the 4-inch aus-8 blade gets razor sharp, and that triad-lock is hard to beat. If you don't want to shell out a bunch of money, the Recon 1 is the way to go. I chose the tanto because I liked the look of the blade better, but in retrospect I probably should've gone with the clip as the tanto isn't as effective in a utility role. These days, I'm pretty convinced that the tanto shape should be used exclusively for dedicated tactical blades.

All of $90.

I will also suggest the (new-style) Cold Steel Recon 1 with the Triad lock. Another good one to take a look at is the CRKT M16 or M21 series.

Just about any Cold Steel knife with a Tri Ad lock would be right up that alley.

If you just want something with a bigger handle and a reasonably thick tip, that describes most 3.5"-4" production knives out there.

I just saw this in the hard use folder thread (feel stupid that I missed that thread). but did you mod it? it doesnʻt look like what I have seen for that knife.

thanks to the others as well, I am thinking I may go with the CS recon...we will see!

If you are looking for a folder to get beat up, look at the Ka-Bar K2 line. They are cheap and made with a sturdy steel. Pretty much perfect for a knife beginner or a beat-up, throw-away folder.

Imo if you want a large folder for just abusing I think coldsteel is one of the only options. That is, if you actually want it to survive.

yes the knife should survive, I am really linking the CS knives at the moment. For the price point they are at I could buy 2 and stay under budget!

One strong CS knife is the Bushman folder. Friend of mine got it, and it is extremely well built, sharp, and pretty hefty for the small size.
