Large logos on blades

...God how I hate that. I like a small understated marking or logo. I find knives with large gaudy logos cheap looking.

Opinions?

I thoroughly enjoy a logo, model # etc stamp located at the base of the blade. I do not like etching, marking or anything else on the blade of the knife. It really wrecks it for me as well. It is funny you mention that, the feeling is mutual. IMHO

I don't mind a small-ish makers mark, and tiny lettering with relevant information. I hate huge logos and writing all over a blade.

I prefer the simple stamping like spyderco does, but having a big oh painted on logo does give off that "cheap" look imho.

Al-Mar comes to mind. Turns me off. I have seen a number of customs too that have the makers name way too big and prominant.

I don't own any knives with large logos on the blade. However, I wouldn't mind a logo such as the one on the Kershaw Outcast. The blade is large enough so that the logo doesn't appear to cover the whole thing. If it were on a smaller knife I think it would bother me. Anyhow, if it doesn't hinder blade performance I can't say that a large logo would deter me from a knife purchase...

i like small logos or no logos myself.

imho MOD is the worst with all the BS they put on there stuff, ER also has a lotta BS on thiers.

Large logos and names are a big turn off for me, especially if they populate both sides of the blade.

I hate big logos as well, BUT on a slippie's main blade I kind'a like them

God, I hate big logos. In my opinion the blade should speak for itself, without needing the extra advertising provided by a huge picture or name. I bought the knife, but they're advertising with it....hmmm. I like a tang stamp or similar marking, to show company, country of origin, steel, etc., but other than that, not so much. Doesn't SOG have some blades with the letters actually cut out of the steel all the way through? Uughh. :barf:

I feel the same way about everything I buy. I won't buy a shirt with a large logo on it, because in the words of Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes, a shirt like that turns you into a "walking corporate billboard." YOU pay to advertise for the COMPANY whose product you bought. The same goes for knives: I appreciate the quality associated with a well-known name, but that quality should speak for itself, and if the company is really well-known, they won't NEED a logo. (think Spyderhole, Buck lockback design, etc.) Everyone will know where the knife came from.

Is this in the wrong forum? Can we move it to W&C so everone can share?

I agree. It doesn't really speak to the quality of the knife, which may be of the very finest, but it just gives it a "cheap" and "gaudy" look. Kellam knives come to mind but there are many others. I want to purchase a Kellam (et al), but I abhor the script and scribbling all over the blade.

BM, Spydy, BRKT, and even Busse's simple "BUsse Combat" (just a few examples) are fine by me and, in fact, desireable. But any attempt at script like "Wolfkiller", "Freedom Fighter", "Bushmaster", etc etc, makes a fine knife look like a toy. I'm buying a serious tool - a knife - not a toy.

Brief, subtle blade markings add class to a well-made knife.

I've always hated large logos, and so much information that it almost covers the whole blade. Below is an example of what I am referring to.

MOD has gotten much better in this regards at least with the Hornet and Tempest I have. Not like before by any stretch. Hate big logo's that make you want to read the blade before using it! EKI's logo isn't bad at all but that's about as big as I want it to be. keepem sharp

why do they do that? It's way out of hand with motorcycle jackets. I don't get it.

Ummm...Advertising. You think you're just buying a cool jacket, but really you're letting everyone else know where you bought it, so they can get one too...

Sorry! This is one of my pet peeves...:D

I dislike them so much I sanded off the blade etch on my Queen Canoe.

I think benchmade's butterfly looks so cool! Spyderco's logo looks nice when it's small and dark. I also like how Spyderco stamps the steel and origin on the tang area.
