Large Regular vs 25

I'm very curious about the 25s. When they come out with a lefty version, I'll probably get one. Honestly though, I find it hard to believe that I'll like it as much as the large regulars. Does anyone have and use both knives? I'd love to see a comparison--most posts compare it to the 21.

Why wouldn't he like it more? I'm still confused on the differences. I can't seem to find a really good comparison between the classic, 21 and 25 in terms of features and differences.

Edit- just watched some videos on the differences, but they were all glowing in the 25s favor...

I have not owned a sebenza 25 YET, though I know I will one day, hopefully soon. I will say that it would have to be one heck of a knife to remove my large regulars from my pocket. I strongly compare the sebenza 25 to the umnumzaan in many ways, and even though I stopped carrying the large regular for the zaan for awhile, eventually the zaan became safe fodder yet again and my large regulars won out. I never really cared for the 21 and the regular always blew the 21 away for me. Recently I have tried some inlay 21's and even though I have given them a second chance and really like them, the regulars by far are superior to me and to many others.

I feel the same about the regulars, they seem just about perfect to me.

Regulars are awesome knives, but the 25 (IMO) is so much more stout and built better. Super solid.

I'd take the 25 any day ;)

Can't imagine carrying large reg if I have a 25. Love it for the thinner handle(ergos) and thicker blade. Tho.... My large micarta Tanto doesn't leave my pocket very often. Yeah, I know...

I have and used both for quite a while, and I would much prefer the 25.

It has no cons vs the regular, everything has been upgraded.

Handles are more comfortable, the 25 just melts into your hand.
Blade is more stout yet cuts better, not sure how they pulled that off, but it cuts better than the standard hollow grind and has stayed sharper longer with the same edge.
Ceramic ball on the lockbar is super smooth and never gets sticky.
With the 25 locked up it feels like a fixed blade, literally. I can't even force a tiny bit of wiggle side to side or up and down.

25 vs any other sebenza has all pros no cons imo.

Here a few grainy dark cell phone shots. I can take better pics later.

There is a rule in collecting, whether knives, coins, or anything else: as soon as you plump for a real beauty, you will soon see something that you think is better, and you start having doubts about your purchase. Trust me, that is the way of the world.

In the world of collecting there is the added pressure of having to make quick decisions, as nice examples disappear quickly. I've learned to buy using the best info available, and don't sweat it if something "nicer" makes an appearance. Use what you bought, and by that I mean use in two ways, also use it to refine what you are ultimately looking for in knives. You can always sell or trade down the line.

There is no perfect knife for all people: for some the older knife is perfect; for others the 25, and for others, some completely different model. So knife collecting is as much learning about yourself as it is learning about knives.

I'm feeling philosophical today; forgive me.

Oh man, I like them both.

What have I done?

LDB--you are becoming the "Wise Old Owl" of the forum--I mean that in a positive way my friend!

Having carried a L Reg for years, I'd have to say I prefer the ergos and improvements of the 25. However, I still think the L Reg "looks" better.

I agree with you on that one.

The Large Regular is visually the most appealing Sebenza. It is what I picture a "Sebenza" to be.
But the ergos and everything else on the 25 make it far superior.

I'm kinda surprised no one showed a comparison of the blade stock. The 25's usage of the thicker Umnumzaan's blade stock is really the most notable and noticeable thing for me.

This is a 21, not a Regular but still...
