Large Regular vs 25

I'm dead serious.
Chris- Please consider doing a limited run of Regular Sebenzas. With the new jimping.

Well I'm with the other guys. Jimping is really not a design benefit for me, but going by the commotion surrounding the regular, and assuming Chris is listening (and firing up the cnc's), I'm in! :D

Regulars are awesome knives, but the 25 (IMO) is so much more stout and built better. Super solid.

I'd take the 25 any day ;)

I have a 25 coming in the mail. I really prefer the Zaan's blade design, the Zaan's thicker blade and the "old" Sebbie spacious thumb access on the lockbar. So the 25 will give me the thicker blade and the thumb-access, so I'm trying it. Time will tell.
Sonny

P.S. to Suzuki.. My thumb is applying pressure and directional control to the blade. If my thumb is slipping, I'm concerned.

I love the blade shape too on the Regular. It looks like a gorgeous spear-point.
The whole design just flows, imo.

I just got my 25 a few days ago and am really liking it. While I do wish it was still in production, the 25 almost scratches the want for a Regular. Almost!

The 25s are awesome. I am going to put one in my pocket before long. It is hard to believe they are any more solid than the 21s, but they do, indeed feel like they are.

Just when you think you can't improve on something...

The 25s are an extremely well constructed knife and have virtually no flaws, however, it is my opinion that a large Regular cannot be beat. I was finally able to replace the large Regular swedge that I lost helping that lady change her flat tire and I managed to get a mint large Regular from 2003. Initially, I put it up with the rest because of its condition and the fact that it was "complete". Then I went on the hunt for a new EDC. I tried everything from a Michael Raymond "Estrella" to a Ray Laconico "Blast 2", including my 25. And to make a long story short one day I got out my large Regular and it has not left my pocket since. I wish it had the swedge like the other one that I lost and unfortunatly CRK isn't offering a swedge as an option anymore but when it is all said and done, for me, the large Regular will always be what a Sebenza is and will forever stand for. Yes, it has been improved upon and the blade materials will get better but as far as looks and function nothing can beat it. And I know people say this all the time but in my opinion no other production folder is as smooth and as consistant as a large Regular. My advice to all of you out there that are just starting collecting Sebenzas is if you see a large Regular BUY IT! I know a fairly good group of people and it still took me over 2 months to find a large Regular that was in mint condition with original birthcard, box, etc. If I see another I will pick it up in a second. As time goes by the regulars will become less and less available and soon will be more of a "safe queen" than a user to most so my advice is get one, and get one fast as they are what all future Sebenzas will be measured against and will soon be extremely difficult to obtain and the prices will continue to climb. Just for the record, and I have both, I prefer the s30v steel to the bg-42 steel in the large Regular for a user anyday. Not a collector, not even close, but with a s30v blade you have the option of a new thumb stud, getting the blade retumbled, and basicaly having CRK work on it without fearing that they will crack it in the process. However, with a bg-42 all they will do is sharpen it and you are left with what the original blade comes with. So long story short, Large Regulars with bg-42 steel should be collected and large Regulars with s30v should be used. Just my opinion of course.

I bought my 21 and 25 at almost the same time, the 25 IMO is more refined, cleaner looking and feels better in the hand. Both are great knives but the 25 is my goto EDC now. The only thing I don't like are those lanyards, I always remove them.
Why do they put lanyards on all there knives ??

I did not like the lanyard at first but did after I gave it a chance. Grab the lanyard and pull out the knife!

Oh, c'mon, let loose your inner grumpy old man, Derrick!!! :D :D :D

Got a Sebenza 25 on the way. I have always been a large regular sebenza guy and Nothing has compared. I have carried an XM and it was no comparison. The only knife that ever kicked the large regular out of my pocket for awhile was the umnumzaan. Like I said, for awhile. The Umnumzaan has not been carried much since. I have been back to my large regular In God We Trust for about the past 10 months. Can't wait to see how the 25 compares...!!!

Tom, your going to be surprised with the 25.

The 25 jimping IMO is the best on any Seb so far. I really like the tri-slotted feel, and the rounded angle really adds to mix. Very grippy without being sharp.

That's funny - My ONLY complaint about the 25 is the jimping. I've found that when I use it for extended periods, like whittling down a walking stick for an hour or 2, my thumb is super sore. So much so, I have to adjust the grip to the point where it's uncomfortable to use. If it had the jimping of the 21, it would be as close to perfect as possible.

In the same situation with a large regular, I find it makes straight slicing cuts like no other (and no sore thumb!!). However, the extra width of the blade makes detail work (curved, detail cuts) more difficult. I still prefer the 25 slightly more for general utility use, but not by much.

I have got to admit that I was very pleasantly surprised by the Sebenza 25. I carried a small 21 for a while and got into a mid-tech / custom kick where I went through about 20 different knives from several different makers. They included:
Hinderer - custom and midtech
Strider
Laconico
Southard
Burchtree
Horton
Mayo
Fellhoelter
George- custom and midtech

After handling the Sebenza 25 I have to say that it is definately the best knife for the money that I have handled. There are others that may like a little more but I am not sure you could really call them a better knife. Right now the Sebenza 25 is in my pocket and I think that it is going to stay there for some time. For the money I don't think that you can find a better folder.

You'll love the 25! It won't replace a regular, but it sure is a nice compliment to it. To me, the feel is totally different, but in a good way. I rotate just about equally between a large regular BG42, 25 and large 21 micarta damascus. All 3 excel, no doubt, but at slightly different tasks. Let us know your impressions when it arrives!

+1...

Brendtech189, congratulations on finding a replacement Regular! I'm about to acquire a second one myself. If and when the 25 comes out in left hand I will definitely try it. Meanwhile, I'm totally happy with my large and small Regs.

Glad to see all the love for the Regular. Mine will arrive tomorrow. "Meteor Shower" CGG. Cannot stinkin' wait !
