Large Regular vs 25

Yeah, the 25 has pretty much kicked my XM out of my pocket for the time being. I really like the heft and balance of the knife, there's just something about it. I didn't care for it too much at first, but after I carried it a few days I started to appreciate it more. Good job CRK!

I don't keep the lanyard in but I do keep he pin in. Not sure how I feel about the lanyard pin hole not being there on he 25. I do like the 25 though.

There is a rule in collecting, whether knives, coins, or anything else: as soon as you plump for a real beauty, you will soon see something that you think is better, and you start having doubts about your purchase. Trust me, that is the way of the world.

In the world of collecting there is the added pressure of having to make quick decisions, as nice examples disappear quickly. I've learned to buy using the best info available, and don't sweat it if something "nicer" makes an appearance. Use what you bought, and by that I mean use in two ways, also use it to refine what you are ultimately looking for in knives. You can always sell or trade down the line.

There is no perfect knife for all people: for some the older knife is perfect; for others the 25, and for others, some completely different model. So knife collecting is as much learning about yourself as it is learning about knives.

I'm feeling philosophical today; forgive me.

Having a stable full of Reg Sebs, both large and small, I must say the new 25 is a master piece.

Sleek, well crafted and quick frankly a beast.
Really hard to compare knives as they are both so different in ergos, style etc.

Wont be selling either anytime soon. :D

Great thread!
I had a Regular Sebenza BG42 and really miss it. The Regular is the only CRK folder that I would consider getting again. To me, the Regular IS the Sebenza.

I definitely do not like that the 25 doesn't have the lanyard hole. To me the pin is like a little piece of jewelry that matches so well with the stud. I'm undecided on the rest.

I'm new to CRK, so bear with me, but I always thought of the pivot as one of the unique selling (and functioning) points of the Sebenza. I must have missed the intro to the new design, but I can't find how it's an improvement on the old one. Can one of you explain to me why they did this, and more importantly, how it has improved their flagship product, because it seems like every other knife now in that regard.

Thank you! :)

The pivot in the 25 is beefier than the 21. I like the fact that I don't need to use loctite on my pivot or on any part of te knife. If I remember correctly, the umnumzaan both new and old and the 25 need loctite in the pivot to keep it from moving out.

I'm confused, so are you saying that you like the 21 or the 25 pivot more?
Btw, I ride an sv650 :)

It looks like the 25 has the larger, more coarse jimping that I like so much. My Classic and my Regular has the smaller jimping which is much more "slippery."
The Zaan is my favorite of these three. The blade design and the handle shape seems to be more similar to the Regular than the Classic.
Pic 1 shows the tendency of the back of the grip (Reg, Zaan) to drop down to "capture" the palm. Nice.

Jimping on the three models. The Zaan offers much more traction to my thumb. I realize that CRK has modified the jimping on various models over the yrs, and so my pics may not be properly considered "representative" of the general trend of a particular model.

pics 3 and 4 give a pretty good indication of blade-shape, and why, IMO, the Zaan is more representative of the Regular than it is to the Classic. Note the rather severe drop of the Classic's tip, even as the blade leaves the grip. Of course, I love 'em all.

That's funny, the jimping on my 21 is super grippy. The best I've ever felt. I've read that it depends on the knife though.

I kinda think Chris needs to do another run of Regulars. I bet they'd sell. :)

The 25 jimping IMO is the best on any Seb so far. I really like the tri-slotted feel, and the rounded angle really adds to mix. Very grippy without being sharp.

I like the "gimping":barf:/jimping on my 21 and I do not plan on stabbing people or use it as a "tactical":barf: weapon. I use SolosKnifeReviews on YouTube as a reference here. He said the jimping was more aggressive on the 25.

I hope CRK did not listen to nutnfancy when designing the knife! :barf: After all, he sold more knives than anyone else and is the know-it-all knife god all manufacturers listen to... :foot:

Anyone who actually uses their knives as tools will know how annoying aggressive jimping gets.

I don't really use jimping or base purchases off of it. It's more decorative to me than anything. As the above person said, I don't stab with my knives, I cut. And if my thumb is slipping, that's the least of my worries.

ive owned over a dozen different sebenzas over the years. regulars, classics, 21's, insingo's, inlayed, small, and large. the 25 is the one.

I'm dead serious.
Chris- Please consider doing a limited run of Regular Sebenzas. With the new jimping.
