  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Large Survival Knife vs. Hawk

I mean if I have my choice of what tools to bring with me... a small axe like a Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe or Scandi Forest Axe, a fixed handle Silky Saw, A 6" field knife, and a Leatherman. Can't imagine anything I couldn't take care of with those.
That sounds exactly like my load out

This is a super fun topic. I’m partial to ‘hawks but big knives are really fun too. Hawks are generally lighter and so, for my uses, handier.

I think if this often.

currently I carry a RMJ Jenny wren. It has 4 edges

if not that a 6-8” fixed blade.

For general outdoor utility, I have a Livesay RTAK, 10" of flat ground 1095, or any of several other 6-8" blades, both factory and handmade, along with a folder chosen for the days plan. If there's a better than 50% chance that I'll be doing any serious chopping,
I'll carry a hawk and a 4-6ish inch fixed blade, along with a folder. So far, this has worked well for me. If I need more than that, I'm going for the chainsaw....
