Large Texas Jacks?

This one showed up Saturday. It was listed as new/minty and it sure was...
There are 3 dots under the USA if curious about the date...

I don't know what this color is called, but it has a real nice depth to it...

That is beautiful bone! Those first two pictures are spectacular. Thank you for sharing with us.

Just scored one on the 'bay! And got it for a song. Couldn't believe it!
Looks to be in pretty decent condition, although we shall see. Stamp is Case XX with the long-tail C, over USA, and seven dots. I think that makes it 1993...?
I think I like the looks of the older models' clip blade shape a little better than this one, just seems a little more "classic," but this will do just fine. :D
Here are a couple of the seller's photos, until I can snap some better ones once I receive it.
Yaaay!

Great looking knife! Congratz on that one :)

It seems that both knives come from a different episode of Case´s history. On Duane´s pic above, compared to puukoman´s, it seems that Duane´s has not that big swung (~ serpentine shape I think) in the whole handle. But maybe it´s just because of the pic, so I can be wrong, for sure.

That's a really nice looking knife sitflyer. I would describe the color of the covers as brown and they are pretty much evenly matced side to side. It should be pointed out that diring the time-frame of that knife (1977) and in earlier times, Case didn't assign named colors to their covers. Case's main distinction between covers was 6 (bone), 5 (stag), 3 (composit/delrin), etc.. Further it was not uncommon for Case to put one color scale on one side of a knife and a completely different collor scale on the other side of the same knife.

One again. Very nice. See - I told you if you kept looking, you would find a very nice example of a 6292 at a very reasonable price.

Many, many people here know a whole lot more about these knives than I do Andi, but I think it may be the angles the photos were taken from, and the shadows, that make them appear slightly different.

Go back and look at the three side by side in this post of Modoc ED on page one. If you look at the pin placement, you can see that the later model, from 1986, has them placed in slightly different locations, yet the frame shape is essentially the same on all three.

Thanks for the link, Doug. Now I see it. It might be really about the angles of the pics. It was just a thought by my own, that some companies can change their handle shapes during the time. :)

I'm not saying that Case did not change, because the '93 model is later than Ed's '86, but his three look like Case was still using the same frame shape in all of them.

For a change in mid-run of a Case pattern, take a look at Case's 18 (medium stockman) pattern. Prior to say about 1980/81 if you were to buy an 18 pattern knife (say a 6318) the knife would have been 3 1/2" long (closed). Then the 18 pattern kind of disappeared until say around 1982/83 and when it came back the 18 pattern was all of a sudden 3 5/8" long (closed). It would appear that Case retooled some of their patterns during that time or at least the 18 pattern.

Interesting ED.

And thanks for raising the question Andi. It got me curious about possible changes in this pattern that I have just come to appreciate. Anything that prompts me to look at more pictures of these 92 pattern knives is a good and enjoyable thing!

Thanx ModocEd, I really like these brown covers, very rich color...in the sunlight you can kind of see into it a little bit towards the ends where it is lighter...I wonder if some of the dye processes have changed over the years, and why so ? But this is kind of off topic...

Part of the answer about why the dye processes (or more importantly dyes used) may have changed over the past years has to do with laws concerning the use of certain chemicals and the way other chemicals may be used. You used to be able to find a chrome shop on almost any corner of an industiral zone but no more. They are few and far between now because of environmental laws etc..
