Larry Chew - good or bad? You decide!

Sometimes things written should be Proof Read prior to actually sending an email as once sent and read it cannot be undone...

I would imagine the email from Larry was just a knee jerk reaction to the way he might have read your email, talking and reading are worlds apart and it isn't good when people read things in the wrong state of mind, a simple note can be taken way too wrong and also read into and between the lines, our minds are wonderful things but can lead us into trouble too quickly.

So, for what it's worth? If it were me, I'd cool my heels, call Mr. Chew up and discuss it if need be, myself, I had a dealing with one maker that promised me a knife, took over 6 years and still no knife, made the mistake of sending money at the get go, it was a terrible long time but I held out hope for this guy and finally ended up getting my money back.

Our lives are never easy or plain and a bad day happens, and then we write emails that we can never retrieve...

hardys,

1 Never post an E-mail; very poor taste.

2 You should have let Larry know you were going to post this here so he could respond.

3 Try to relax; it's not the end of the world.

4 Larry is very well respected; don't try to discredit him.

I ordered a knife from Larry (a LH Micro auto) after about 6 months of E-mails I just cancelled it.

I didn't come here.

He's a one man shop and you have to be patient.

That's all there is to it. :)

After 9 months I just got my Larry Chew Covert D/A back that I had sent in for repair of a broken spring.
Through all that time Larry kept me up to date with what was going on, and his unfortunate problems, and I told him I would be patient, and wait, and did not want him to hurry on it so that it would be repaired right as he was trying some new different steel(S30V) in the springs to make them better. I got it back yesterday, and the knife is just like new, only better as the new steel is working better, and he completely rebuilt the knife, and I thought it was great before, but is even more perfect now. It was a long wait but worth it in the end.
In your case he had already delivered the knife you ordered, and you said it was perfect when you got it, but decided you wanted one of his new models, and he was willing to take the Spitfire back in trade for the other, but you would have to go back to the bottom of the list as a new customer. Makes sense to me. Yes it was longer than he had told you, but like others said he is a one man shop, and you know of his circumnstances, so should have given him a little more slack like I did.
That Covert D/A of mine is my favorite knife, and it was hard to be without it, but I knew when I got it back it would be perfect, and it is!!! That knife costs me $725, and being on a medical pension I saved awhile to get it as I wanted the best, and then by no fault of Larry Chew, it broke, and I was sad, but knowing Larry Chew, and his reputation I knew he would make it right, and it would be right when he felt he had solved the problem. It took longer than I expected, and he expected, but like I said, he had other problems, but I stood behind him, and believed it would be worth it.
When you knew his circumstances you should have been a little more patient as he was not that far behind on when he said it would be done. I gave him slack as I had been in his same situation at a time in my life, and knew just how much he was going through, and all of sudden my knife was not as important to me anymore, and it was just a minor problem compare to what Larry Chew was going through.
He since has all that behind him, and has moved, and got a new place where he will have his shop, and with less travel time be able to get more knives done, and get back on a better timetable.
All I am saying is you should have given him a little more compassion knowing his circumstances, and he would have taken care of you while going through his un-controlable times rather than trying to trash his good reputation on here.

Sorry this is so long, but just my .02 cents rounded off to a buck.

Be nice*
Pretty simple, isn't it?

It's our philisophy- Be nice to others and they will be nice to you. It's a proven one as well- when there aren't attacks and nastiness, the level of discussion and the sense of community always increases.

This is not to say that you cannot disagree with anything that you see posted. Just don't be nasty about it. Back up your point of view with facts, logic and reason and you will see the same kind of responses to your own statements.

Show common courtesy, and it will be more than shown to you.

   Everyone has pretty much said it all.If I were Mr.Chew I would send you back your original knife and not think twice about you again. We are all a part of this community and regardless of your frustration you NEVER threaten anyone in this community with the law unless they steal from you or do bodily harm.I would write Mr.Chew an appology and go back and delete all your post's in this thread and hope that the rest of the community forgive's because we sure don't forget! Good luck! Mike

Larry Chew - good or bad? You decide!

Having thoroughly read this thread, given it due consideration and carefully making the zero/sum choice offered by the title of this thread I have decided:

Larry Chew - the GOOD

This matter has been settled (amicably it would appear) and so no longer needs to be left in public where folks were being trashed and private emails revealed.
