I am going to do a collaboration knife to help raise money for Vampire Gerbil. The knife will be auctioned off when its finished. Totally Judy will handle taking in the bids and getting the money from the winner. (when the knife is done, i will post picks at my website) At this time I'm looking for seasoned knifemakers that might want to help. So far, Darrel Ralph is donating the stainless steel along with heat treating. I will grind the bevel then ship the blade to the next person. Anyone wishing to help out can send me an email telling me what you would be willing to do. I already ground a test blade to see how the knife will look and I already posted picks at my website so anyone interested can look at what the knife will look like. There will be a need for someone to do the handle which is up to the person donating the time and material to decide on its shape. I will ship the knife to this person so they can cut out the shape before it goes to Darrel for ht. There will also be a need for someone to engrave the blade with the names of everyone who helped and any other engraving they would wish to do. When the knife is done, I will post thoes picks at my website. Lets get together guys and make this a kickbutt knife for VG. Any suggestions from "seasoned knifemakers" will be welcome.

i should have mentioned above that this knife is a single bevel which in my opinion and through some low tech testing (splitting hairs) seem to be sharper than a hollow grind or a double bevel.

Richard,

What is the website address to look at the knives? huh? huh? huh?

Thanks!!!

Judy

http://mysite.verizon.net/ress6fq6/ this is the link to my knife website. the pictures of this knife and the collaboration knfe are-will be posted here also.
i'm deciding what to use for a handle on the knife above. i will sell this knife and use the money to help pay shipping and insuring the collaboration knife around between whoever donates time and supplies, then donate the rest to vg's fund. COME ON GUYS!!!! AM I GOING TO BE THE ONLY KNIFEMAKER ON THIS PROJECT??? NO OTHER VOLUNTEERS AS OF THIS MORNING!!!

i just emailed butcherblock and he has generously offered to do the handle, indian george said he will do the bladeguard. now all we need is someone to do the engraving of everyone's name involved in making this knife. if anyone wants to donate time in maybe helping with putting a good hand rubbed finish on this knife, that would be sweet. my hands are killing me or i would do it.

i just talked with David Wesner and he is joining the project. David has offered to do some filework and the engraving. the steel Darrel donated came by ups today along with some nice stag for the other knife. i have the bevel ground and satin finish put on. i'll ship it out to ig monday.

Richard,

Your dedication and efforts to get this knife project rolling is simply amazing. The amount of time you took today alone to get the knife ready to send on tomorrow is incredible. What did you tell me? 3-4 hours straight to make it happen?

And you contacted so many knifemakers, etc. to enlist their collaboration. In about one week you have made this not only an idea, but already a blade ready for the next step.

Kudos to you, Richard!!!! It is going to be an incredible knife. A very BIG incredible knife.

Hey You Knifemakers out there! Yes, YOU!!!!!

Richard needs a little help with getting this knife finished. I believe he still needs someone or someones to do the Bladeguard and also the handle. If you can do either of these parts of the knife, it would be very helpful to Richard and it will help speed up the process of getting this VG Collaboration Knife finished and ready for Auction. How about it?

We need someone to do the Bladeguard.
We need someone to do the Handle.

I find it hard to believe that on a Blade Forum Community with over 80,000 members that we can't find two good men or women who can get this bladeguard done and get the handle done.

Come one. Step up to the plate. It's not going to take you that much time. Richard needs Knifemakers who are willing to apply their own idea and style to the bladeguard and handle. Each should reflect the maker of that portion of the knife.

Thanks in advance for the stampede of PM's and emails that will be sent to Richard in the next few hours or at least no later than tomorrow.

You guys are the best. Let's gitter done!

Judy

i posted some picks of the knife i'm making at my website. i managed to get in a little time on the mill before my friend charlie closed his shop for the evening. i was planning on having the knife done by this weekend but charlie hasnt been in the shop after hours. i hope i can get some more time tonight or even later today before he closes shop. i'm going to grind a knife for obsidian since he has helped me out with posting pictures for me. there is still a need for a "knifemaker" to help with the guard and handle that can add their own personal touch without any plans or drawings from me. vg's bills arent going to wait for this knife to be done so show dave who his friends are by stepping up and helping with this collaboration knife. if i have to, i will finish it myself but thats not what i wanted to do. thanks.

pinoy knife just made my day!!!!!!! he offered to to the guard and the handle. i cant wait to see the finished knife. thanks to everyone involved!!!!

VG is a man (undead rodent?) with an amazingly LARGE personality and wit. Of course, any knife made in his name must also be ... LARGE.

This all seems utterly appropriate to me.
