Last Chance !!! VG KNIFE AUCTION ends SATURDAY 9:00 PM Eastern Time

Richard,

I know that you have some physical issues that you are dealing with. It makes it all that much more commendable that you are taking on the task of making multiple knives to help VG. Your daily pain hinders your progress, but you just keep working for as long as your hands and eyes allow.

I would like to thank you for this wonderful project you have undertaken to help another forum member in need. Often I wonder if we shouldn't be doing something to help you.

I would also like to thank every member who has stepped up and offered their services for the collaboration knife.

And I agree with Cuddy Bear - this knife looks like it is about three feet long!!

Hang in there, Richard. You shall receive great blessing for all that you are doing. I can shall "God Bless You" after you sneeze, but those other blessings will come from the Man himself.

Judy

i just talked with matt cook. he has the tang cut down and a guard made for the knife. he hopes to have it completed soon. i have the guard on the knife i'm making and i hope to have it completed next week if i can get some time on the mill.

matt doyle tested a piece of the steel that i'm using for the knife i'm making. the discs are made from 1070 steel.

after trying to heat treat the knife i'm making like i normally do, i decided it would be better to have the whole blade done instead. roger linger has donated his time to do a proper heat treat. he also thinks the steel is not 1070 but closer to 1075. i am looking for someone to engrave this knife with the names of myself, roger linger, darrel ralph, chuddy bear (charles dominick) and whoever offers their services to engrave the names. please send me an email, pm or post here with your offer. if someone would donate a stencil, roger can do the etching.

for thoes of you who might subscribe to this thread, matt cook has sent me the collaboration knife. its awesome!!! sorry, no picks until auction time. its going to be a suprise!!!!

i just wanted to update everyone on the collaboration knife. i have ran into a slight problem with the collaboration knife, it came back to me with a slight bend about 2" back from the tip running from spine to edge. it needs to be straightened out before being heat treated and i'm not good at straightening bent things out so i'm asking for help from anyone who can straighten a2 and do a good job.

i didnt mean to make matt out to be a bad knifemaker, like i said, his work blew me away. the light has to be just right to see the bend and it could have slipped by anyone.
i didnt even see it until it was pointed out to me by the same person who looked it over for me before i sent it out but his job is inspecting finishes on metal. please dont let this matter sway you from buying any of matts knives, whoever gets this one will have a sweet piece to add to their collection. its not that big a deal and it can be fixed, i'm just not trusting myself with trying to straighten the blade and making it worse than it is.

it wont be long now. the collaboration knife is almost done thanks to phillip patton, he's doing the heat treat on the one i'm making.

i have both blades back now. the collaboration knife needs engraved then its ready to be auctioned off. the knife i'm making needs the handle finished, engraved and a sheath made before its ready.

i was talking with bill deshivs last night. he is going to engrave "in memory of vg" on both knives along with plating them.

We'll need to coordinate with the family to find out what should be done with the funds raised from this.

i hope to have the collaboration knife up for auction before the end of this month. due to my hands bothering me it might be a while before i can put the handle on the one i'm making. i need some input. i talked with spark on the phone and he suggested the knives be put on ebay in order to get the most money out of the knives. i myself hate ebay and wish to keep the knives in the family so to speak and have a bladeforums (or jerzeedevil) member buy either one of the knives. talking with a few members who have seen picks of the collaboration knife have gave me some starting bid suggestions. i need more suggestions for a starting bid and anyone wishing to see picks can send me an email. i was told a good starting price was $350. for the collaboration knife. jim cooper will be taking some REAL picks and post them for others to see on his website when i send it to him. thanks. rje196021@gmail.com

bill deshivs done a fine job engraving the names on the collaboration knife. when i get it touched up and sharpened i will ship it to jim cooper for pictures. from there it will go to spark.

i took a pick of the engraving. its not that good but its the best out of a dozen shots.

like i said, bill done a super job. he was telling me he has to set each letter by hand. i used to watch an old typesetter here in town do similar work when i was a kid and it took him a long time. bill must have more patience than i do :D.
bill was unable to engrave the knife i'm making because of other jobs he had to get out which is understandable. after making a few phonecalls yesterday i was able to find a trophy engraver fairly close that is donating his time to engrave this knife for me. his name is don warnock and his shop is marysville tropyh.

today with the help (good eyesight) of new member ohbowhunter (doug elliot)
the collaboration knife is sharpened and good to go. i will be posting instructions on how to place your bids on my website. i will have a dedicated link in my sig line. i will be shipping it out this coming week to coop for pictures.
