Last of the forums for me...was fun for a while

I have been around these forums for a really long time. Longer than most, not as long as a few of you. Im sure a few of you remember RecDotKnives, and the very beginning of Knifeforums, and after that the start of Bladeforums. I guess 6 years is long enough. I have a few reasons for deciding to leave, but after much thought I decided it would be better to not list them. I will say that I am going to probably go back to my "before the forums" days of simple collecting. I buy locally, discuss with local friends and get my latest info when the new magazine issues are out.

I suppose the main purpose is to say goodbye to the friends I have on here and in the chat room. It was fun guys!!!

Also, to those who I have had some differences with (to many to list
tongue.gif
) well, I suppose it was interesting anyways.

I do have an arrangement with a couple of people on here to do some knife photos for them when they are ready. I am keeping my internet access and email so the photos can still be done whenever you are ready, just shoot me an email.

This will be my last post here. Although I maybe back in a week or two with one more post. The intention of that post maybe to sell off a good part of my collection so I can steer my knife taste in another direction. I just have to sort out the knives and see which ones I am going to part with.

Personally I am looking forward to taking the usual "forum" time and spending even more time with the wife and kids.

Take care everybody.

Sorry to see you leave.
It sounds like you have your prioritys straight though. The best to you and your family.

Jeff

See you soon.

Why do some people feel the need to announce their imminent departure? If you are going to be missed it will happen, you can't force a hole in our hearts. Good luck, don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

That's Doctor Evil to you. I didn't go to Evil Medical School for six years to be called Mister, thank you very much!

Frankly, When I see posts like these I find them a little difficult to believe. Six years - thousands of posts. You "may" take a break but I doubt you'll stop visiting these forums. My guess is you'll see my post here within 24 hrs.

So...You are telling us that you have found a CURE for you knife addiction, AND for your BladeForums addiction??? Please share with us how you did it!!!.

...I know that you'll be back...There are just too many NICE people here at BF to just walk-away from...

Gee! That kinda sucks for us Richard, but I can understand your decision. I wish you good luck with your new collecting plans, and all the best to your family too! Thanks for the pics you did for me, and thanks for the great conversations on chat

I understand where you are coming from Richard. I feel the same way you do.

I'm burned out on knives as well (just over 2 yrs for myself) and have been thinning down my pile of stuff.

I think we can never spend enough time with our kids and wife.

I know I am guilty of spending too much time on the internet.

Keep in touch and if you ever need any more 'x' made just send them on over.

Friends are friends forever.

Wow, this bites. My list of favorite e-personalities with whom to interact is a short one, but you are high on it, Richiro.

I understand perfectly where you have placed your priorities, though. I never access the forums or chat from my home for that reason. It is always from work. (heh heh heh)

I hope you will still have time in the near future to photo my stuff. I can think of nobody else who could do it the justice that you could. Well, there is that Nagata fellow, but he doesn't answer e-mails, the phone, or his doorbell anymore. Him and his fancy shmancy restraining orders. HMMPH!!

Please be sure to keep in touch though, and drop me a line when you figger out which blades you want to get rid of. Your tastes are so close to mine that I am sure I need whatever you got.

It's been my pleasure, Rich.

Richard,

You will be missed, but I can understand. I had to take a year or so away from the BF. It's great that you can buy locally. We have one military surplus type of store that has a small, but decent, knife department. If none of us bought there we would have zero knife stores. You have your priorities in order. You can replace a knife, but you only get one chance to be there for your children as they grow up. The wife deserves the time, too. May good fortune and great happiness be constant companions for you and your family.

Cordially,

Dave

I absolutly respect your opinion and you will be missed. I joined a short 4 months after you. I used to spend a lot of time on Rec.knives. I liked it and couldnt understand the idea of moderation. Hence it was a personal mission for me not to join here. Spark chimed in on rec.knives and I tried it out and I have been here ever since. I understand your feelings of neglecting other pursuits in lew of hanging out here but I have found a comfortable balance between scanning the posts and responding to a few and .... enjoying other interests. It might be why I dont have a zillion posts. I used to spend a disproportionate amount of time here but after a while I realized Id learned more than I would ever need to know about steels and angles and just started enjoying coming here for the comradere. I work as an exhibits person but always hold out hope of being a showing artist. (yea like five million others) I realized much of the time spent here could be spent improveing my craft. But .... man does not live by ... well you know the rest. Visiting twice a day for 20-30 minutes is a nice respite. I check the gadgets and community forums first. I look at the makers and shop forums I enjoy learning some new things and talking to people Ive been talking to for over 2 years but I move on. Think about having to give up anything that gives you some pleasure. Life is way short.

Ok enough sensitive stuff, sorry but think about it.

Drop by here when you can, and I'll catch you in Chat later and we'll talk about this blatant cry for attention.

Rich, your input will be missed. I understand where you're coming from, though. This place has gotten way too big, takes too much time to keep up with, and the general direction and lack of courtesy that's been prevalent lately(see the wonderful post by dr evil above who's been here a whole 3 months), can't blame you.
Take care amigo,
Dave

Rich,
I'm very sorry to see you go and will miss you plenty in chat even though my time there has been lacking a bit these last two months.
