Last Week's Adventure...

LOL... he already has a lovely pair of them on the wall. We will be on the North Island as well.. ;)

It's just what you are use to I guess mate. I like tents ;) but they are just not practical walking great distances here either. Any extra weight carried really does need to be water. You do get a bit of a funny feeling when you hear/feel something crawling/scurrying across your bivvy in the night though...I have learned (after many years of practice) how NOT to squeal like a teenage girl at those moments... ;)

You make a very important point. I've hiked in the outback. It is recommended that one drinks one litre of water per hour. That is a lot of weight. Never slept out of doors while in the outback though. I'd typically carry 4 to 6 litres .... Hardly anything else. A net to put over your head is mandatory. Hat, sunscreen as well.

Cheers !

Ha, I should have known! Also, I'm going to give that shyster trying to take my deposit on a North Island chamois hunt a piece of my mind :D
.....it's OK mate, an enterprising Kiwi will be able to knock up a paper mache "adaptor" for a sheep and you will never know the difference... ;)

Mate, even I know enough to get suspicious when 'sheep' and 'adapter' are used in the same sentence  :D

Have you ever hunted red deer Andy? In either New Zealand or Australia?

This Kiwis do love their sheep....

Yep, when I am hunting Black Fallow I am also by default hunting Reds, they are prevalent in the same area but not in the same numbers. I see Red Stags most years there just not a big enough one to go after, just over the range (in my old back yard !!) some monsters have been taken. I also hunted them up in Queensland some years ago. A guy I know was just in the UK and (through a whole chain of linked events) was able to take a 29 point Red ...it is just a monster !!

I think that's the thing about the red deer that is so impressive, just that one could be such a freak of nature. I don't know how I missed that you were chasing reds with the Black Fallow. Probably pictures of Black Fallow bucks lured my attention away from the text :D

Good luck with the Sika hunt my friend. I'll look forward to the results as always.
