I just forged this today.... after the initial forging I felt it was a little handle heavy so I drilled some lightening holes to balance it out. I intend to put birch handle scales on it with brass pins. I'll post more pics when I'm done.

The finish is right of the anvil (it takes me a long time to get that good of a finish... about 2hrs)... The handle was ground flat prior to putting in the holes. I do clean up the profile and touch up the plunge lines with a round file prior to heat treat (this pic is post heat treat)... I start with 5160 barstock 1/4" x 1 1/4" x 10"... the blade finished 1 3/4" wide at the widest part and 11 1/8" long.

The face of the blade has not been touched by grinder or file.... you will see the imperfections when I put the cutting edge on.... lol

Very nice! Your work has come a long way since your first blade not long ago.
I bet there are guys who have forged knives for years that are a little jealous of that.:D

That's beautiful... I never forged anything and I thought that in order to get such clean bevels you needed to grind them after forging... but you just proved me wrong. It looks great, seriusly. I can't wait to see it finished.

I'd like to buy one of those if you ever make another one! Maybe a little longer blade and handle? Looks beautiful!!
