Latest knife- W2 integral fighter

Nick, if the head swells and the hat don't fit............ You deserve it.

"Atta-Boys" are hard to come by these days. Too many people in today's fast times just simply have a tendency to take a quick look and say "Meeehhhh, looks good, NEXT". Not too many stop and realize how much work goes into something like this. It takes not only God given talent, but an enormous amount of patience to pull it off.

Ya done good son.......... Thanks for letting us have a look.

Robert

Thank you Robert, that really made my day!!! :)

Anthony, this link should take you right to it, but if not... it's on page 26 of the thread. I've changed my process a little since then, but mostly have just gotten faster/more comfortable with it. Thanks. :)

And FWIW- I've had a lot of people ask me why that thread isn't a sticky here in Shop Talk. My only guess is because it has a lot of extra "chatter" that most WIP threads don't have.

Nick, Thank you for the link. I sat on the edge of my seat reading through that thread. I always enjoy reading through your tutorials. I keep your handle sanding tutorial saved to my desktop and have read and re-read it many times. I'm saving this one as well. Thanks again!

If you're willing to share it would be interesting to see how you do the line cuts and fluting. It's definitely a very elegant embellishment.

Thanks for sharing and thanks for the other inspiring WIPs.

Orange,

Go to you tube. Nick has several good videos and walks you right through it. I just watched them last night.

Sorry I am late commenting on this one. Computer problems. :(
I love it Nick, particularly the handle shape!

PS: I am finishing a knife and spending way too much time trying to get the fit and finish perfect. Well of course I am actually only making it worst. I finally gave up thinking to myself: "Who do you think you are, Nick Wheeler?". ;)

I've really been enjoying the integrals that you've been turning out lately Nick. They are some of my favorites. This one looks veeeerrry similar to one that you did for Coop awhile back... and I loved that one.:thumbup:

Like the others have been saying, that line-cut fluting is beautiful... visually, it just seems to add up to more than the sum of its parts. Very cool.

Thank you guys! :) Support from your peers is very rewarding since it's your fellow makers that truly know first hand some of the blood, sweat, and tears that go into these things.

Anthony, thanks for pointing that out about the videos, and for watching! :) I've had some emails/comments lately asking me to film in HD... LOL... I only accidentally figured out I could shoot a video with my little Nikon about 2 years ago.

Patrice, I know all too well how consuming it can be to get caught up in that pursuit of perfection... or at least as close as possible... and it sure seems like it could drive a man insane at times. I think the worst part of it, is it's usually other makers that can see those tiny little things. Don't get me wrong, there are some top flight collectors that have a very trained and discriminating eye! But as a generality, I think we sweat the tiniest details for other makers. :foot:

Erin- very keen eye! This one was based off the original sketch I made for Coop's knife! Profile and overall "style" are exactly the same... Some of the detail stuff is a little tighter (I'd like to think anyway! LOL :D).

Thanks guys!!! :)

Very cool knife.
I would bet this style knife would look really good in a ladder pattern damascus.
Just sayin...

Ladder damascus and a killer Koa handle....sounds familiar somehow.......:D

great job, Nick!!

Hey Nick, very cool instructive vids on the fluting associated with your line-cut flutes ... but I couldn't find a vid showing how you actually do the line-cuts themselves. Your cuts are incredibly clean and thin... do you have video posted of you making those cuts?

Hmmm.... Perhaps with a gem grade Koa handle?!?!? :D

Lemme know when you can come up for a few days my friend. :)

I think there are a few other guys who would want me to stop and pick them up on the way there.
Time keeps going by and I keep telling myself I need to take a few days and drive up north.
You'll probably just have to tell me when to hit the road.
