Law Enforcement Duty Belt Knives - GTG Knives ?

I've been researching law enforcement fixed blade knives. Not a fan of how the TDI handle is exposed. Does anyone have experience with GTG Knives. There is not much info out there about them right now, but their products look legit.

The sheath system looks like it conceals a fixed blade better than anything else out there. It is reversed (inserts behind the mag pouch) and blends really well with your gear pattern. Decent price point considering they are American made, cerakoted, and has a kydex sheath.

Pretty sure I am saving up and getting their GTG-1 with the LEO Vertical Sheath (horizontal is offered also - but there is just too much stuff on my belt to pull this off). It offers the concealment I am looking for, but I just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with their product.

I am new to this forum so I am not sure what the atmosphere is like just yet. On gun forums I've seen too many times where guys ask about 9mm ammo and several people start posting about .40 and .45 ammo and how they should change caliber. I know cops are often passionate about the gear they invest in, but please don't try and make this a discussion about why I should just buy a TDI. I like the looks of some of them, but I have already ruled them out. I know they have the level 2 sheath now, but that limits you to accessing it with only one hand. However, suggestions for other products (fixed blade) that can go on a LEO duty belt would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Many departments don't allow officers to belt carry fixed blades, your department does?

Winkler belt knife would be my suggestion. But LEO carry a lot on their belts as it is.. A little confused.

No experience with GTG, just an observation - that hook on the end of the handle looks rather pointy and painful for when you're yanking the knife out. Designed for gloves? Dunno.

They seem like pretty expensive knives for what they are. The I would think any one piece neck knife type would work when combined with a very ordinary kydex holster and a piece of belt. But maybe I'm oversimplifying?

Have you considered boot carry?

Seems like a lot of PDs are done with the .40 Fashion Dance and are switching back to 9mm. Reason given: Improved bullet technology. Reality: Bonded core bullets existed before .40 came out.

Lol this thread isn't about ammo or calibers he used the ammo as an example of how people throw out suggestions that have nothing to do with the question being asked.

Not sure where you get your info "seems like a lot" of pd's are switching back to 9mm but i'd like a source if you have one. Maybe visitor message me so as not to derail this guys thread.

That hook on the back looks awfully painful for the user. Not sure how you would even use it. $100 for 1095 is way over priced as well. If you are going to throw down big bucks get one of the spartan models. If you want much more reasonably priced 1095, look at an Esee izula or even less expensive one of the small beckers. I am sure you could figure out how to rig them in the same way GTG presents on their website.

Lol, I realize the thread is about knives, as is the entire forum. I don't think my little aside required an entire post on your part to "correct" me. But since we're soiling the thread already, the FBI already announced their switch and many PDs are following suit. Do a search of "PDs switching to 9mm" and see the articles that come up.

Of course, the two biggest PDs in the US never stopped issuing 9mm.

Lol.

Well since the soiling has commenced, the FBI isn't a PD and they go back and forth between calibers. The local PD's (state police, sheriff and dnr) I do believe issue 40. I'll ask some of my instructors from last semester (criminal justices courses, 3 professors were active LEO) if they know anything about this switch back to 9mm.

I don't particularly care for either round, most handgun rounds have hit people and not killed them though including 9mm which the FBI is switching back to.

If one doesn't have weak wrists 10mm spanks both of them.

Just looked at the actual knife the OP is asking about...
I say get something else.

Find a store where you can try various knives out in person if at all possible.

You can look at the article I posted, too. The issue with .40 is both training, cost and wear and tear on guns. The FBI is an LEO, and this is happening across LEOs. My point in posting in the first place is that people like to give their opinions on stuff like calibers, knives, whatever - citing some sort of authority - and almost as soon as they've quoted whomever that agency has released new "science" discrediting the old one. So I feel for the OP's complaint about getting lectured.

The FBI has switched calibers very little, actually. Or sidearms.

I hope the OP is getting the drift from the rest of the thread that these GTG things don't seem to be a good deal.

The basic reasoning for switching to the 9mm is superior accuracy (initial shot, quicker follow up shots) and higher capacity resulting in more follow up shots available and less reloads required. Don't get me wrong I got told you get one point blank shot I'll take the 10mm every day of the week but for a "shootout" make mine a 9. Also sorry for the derail OP I agree with what most others have said it looks uncomfortable to carry all day on your belt I would look at a clinch pick or maybe an Emerson.

LOL you don't need a holster for them, more like a trailer and a truck for the top one and a man servant named Alfred for the bottom one haha

Indeed. :D

I might find something in the range of the second one to shoot someday.

I really, really want to fire an atomic cannon though. :)
The moment I first heard of such a thing, my interest was fully engaged; once I saw the footage, the obsession was cemented forever.

I said the FBI wasn't a police department which they are not. Federal agencies like the ATF and FBI are just that federal agencies not to be confused with your local pd. If you can come up with a number of police departments who have ditched 40. I'll be surprised because I doubt you can. "seems like alot" because the FBI is using 9mm is hog wash. Provide numbers of the thousands of pd's across the USA en masse going to from 40. To 9mm Please.. I'll wait.

At the GTG's price point you wouldn't have to reach much further into your pocket to have a custom made to your own specs.

I am kind of wondering about the sharpness of the hook also....it is a strap cutter - I like the 'idea' of a knife like this having a rescue utility. As far as price, I know there are some that are less, but when compared with TOPS C.A.T. and some others it seems competitive - especially considering the sheath system.
