Interesting how one small thing like buying another old knife can so greatly rekindle the fire of knife collecting. In my case it's more like garbage-can knife "gathering" -- not in the sense that all my knives are junk, just that I "collect" anything and everything, not one specific maker or pattern. Yard sales, junk & antique stores, flea markets, as well as a weekly "I Buy Knives" liner ad in a local shopper are my main sources. So yesterday I picked up an LB7 from a guy and decided to "look it up" along with a Stagalon "LB7" that'd been on my desk for weeks and hadn't made it into my Schrade "large folder and fixed blade" bin. And I found this thread. That did it. Pretty much everything else on my plate went out the window. I saw and saved Codger's serial number range and dates posting from the first page of the thread. Then thought I should add to the survey, thinking I had at least one other one. When I rummaged through the bin, the first thing I found was a yellow sticky with all of the same serial #/ date info neatly printed on it--so I must've been here before. Finding a total of 6 LB7s, as well as a true Stagalon LB8, no seiral #, I had a number of questions. Now after wading thru the 8 years of this thread for about 3 hours all of the questions have been answered. (Like why the LB8 Stagalon Quail Unlimited etched, looked identical to the low-numbered Stagalon LB7.... Cuz they're both LB8s!) I only list it here, because it's in my photo, if I can get it to attach. Here's my list:
Serial # 7451 - 3-pin
SCHRADE+
U.S.A. LB7 blade stamp
LB8 Stagalon handle with Uncle Henry signature shield
Serial # 130653 - 4-pin
SCHRADE+
U.S.A. LB7
Serial # AX17484 - 3-pin
Uncle Henry
SCHRADE+
LB7 U.S.A.
Cronaton (Eagle) etch
2 no serial #s:
Uncle Henry
SCHRADE+
LB7 U.S.A.
Forward lockbar pivot pin placement
No serial #
Uncle Henry
SCHRADE+
LB7 U.S.A.
More centered lockbar pivot pin placement
Codger asked on 3/16/15 if lockbar notch change and pin placement change might have occurred at the same time. Maybe the last one in my list and photo answers that. All of mine seem to have identical lockbar notches, but the last one has the pin placement change.
Hope this helps. Glad to be posting again. Now back to the never ending garage cleaning, so that, one day, I might actually be able to organize my unsorted knife treasures.
Later,
Barry
