I am very much looking forward to all the coming exclusives but it has been about 48 hours since I heard about the last one and I am ready for another.:D

I know I like Spyderco s110v and K390 but I want to try a nitrogen steel other than H1. Jade g10 is cool. Back me up!

Yes, yes, yes! I have been begging for a Military salt for awhile. I say "salt" because I doubt they would make a lc200n millie sprint without making it fully rustproof and adding it to the salt line. Anyway, to me, a fully rustproof Military would be a bit of a grail knife.

This idea was shot down in the past for multiple reasons.
1. H1 was a Japanese steel. (problem solved with lc200)
2. H1 didn't play nice with liner locks (problem solved with lc200)
3. H1 could not efficiently be flat ground (problem solved with lc200)

The only real obstacle I can see to making a Military Salt at this point would be making sure the hardware, pivot and partial liners were fully rustproof.

One of you photoshop users should edit a picture of the military and give it a salt yellow handle! Just for something to drool over. :D

Also, unlike a lot of the knives we wish for around here, I believe this would actually be a money maker for spyderco. LC200n has MUCH better edge retention than H1 (in pe) and is close enough to s30v that, aside from the normal boater/fisherman market, I believe a lot of Millie lovers would want the salt version too just for an everyday user/extreme condition knife. Add to that the exotic yellow handle, which I think would look really cool on the Military, and I believe they'd have themselves a hit with this knife.

I read your write up on the Tusk.

I would be fine with a non salt lc200n Military. Yellow g10 is fine by me. DLC would help keep the pins and liners from rusting. I strongly prefer a satin blade even if it came with black hardware. Sounds like a super mega grail!

What steel would be equivalent to LC200N corrosion inhibiting wise? Don't know anything about LC200N.

Nothing that I have used (short of H1) has shown the corrosion resistance of lc200n. I used the tusk regularly in my kayak for a full month. (I only stopped because I was too scared of dropping it in the ocean! haha) I let it bathe in saltwater everyday and even left it multiple days soaking in saltwater in the hull compartment. I wasn't able to get it to show any rust at all. Any other stainless steel would be eaten up with surface rust after that level of exposure.

^^^That's pretty good and in a Military platform would probably be great. Bite my tongue> maybe even partially serrated.:)

Anything that can last one full day in/around salt water without rusting is good.

Don't really have a need for extreme corrosion resistance myself, but I could see those being well received.
I'd likely get one just to try it out.

I'd certainly be down for one! I don't know if LC200N has the toughness of H1, but that would be a nice quality. Ease of edge maintenance would be another big plus in my book.

I'd prefer orange, but otherwise a great idea. Yellow is a dirt magnet... Ti clip would be awesome

Might even take it freediving :D

:thumbup:Sign me up for one too.

We all know Sal is here and reads the posts. Keep the thread going with enough interest to justify the cost of development and production and we might see it. I'd buy 2, maybe 3 of them.

Something like this would definitely get more people to try out the alternative Salt steel... I'm not a fan of the Tusk, but we definitely need to see that steel in some other platforms!

Cronidur 30 is the oldest one with similar chemistry, been in production for some time and LC200N is also sold as Z-FiNit. One could expect a highly corrosion resistant 52100 type wear resistant steel IMO if heat treated correctly.

Other steels to consider would be 14C28N by Sandvik, Bohler N360 and Nitrobe-77. Nitrobe-77 being the scarcest and one of the purest alloys to my knowledge and has the highest Nitrogen content but has one helluva of a heat treatment cycle that needs to be controlled very strictly in order to get the best out of it.

I would be over any LC200N larger folder and flat ground by Spyderco like white on rice.

Thanks for the info marthinus. I remember when everyone was just using Ti blades around Salt Water. There is some cool stuff out there. I hope Spyderco does look at this thread and ponder the Military/LC200N idea:)
