Learned my lesson - empty my pockets :(

Must of been fun at your Sunday school! Been shanking kids on the playground, Carl?

From the age 5 to now the only time you'll catch me without a blade is in the shower (most the time anyway) and now the friggin airport.
Rocks, sticks and fist worked just fine on the playground for us, knives were for more important work on the farm, hunting and fishing. We never thought of them as weapons. The big "get evens" were always settled with knots and bruises for all.
'Bout the only time I didn't carry for a self use tool was when I was 4 and got to carry PopPop's big old Case Toenail in my pocket while we walked the farm (one handed of course - needed one to hold my britches up). Heck, I couldn't even open the thing! But was always the proud sword bearer.

"...rocks, fists, and sticks..."
Gotta find an excuse to name a thread after this.

Mother's wheel polish might just clean that one up.

Yes indeed.
The stuff works wonders for cleaning little rust spots.
I've used it on my Fiddlebacks for some time now and it just works great.

Having taken a few of your knives out of their comfort zones, and on to unreasonable treatment of a handle configuration by a lot of standards, I'm not surprised it held up well. I have always been impressed with what the wooden handles can handle over many hours of use, and never once had an issue with the synthetic handles.

Although my user fiddlebacks have not been put through as much use as Brian's, I still agree that they feel like they would hold up to almost anything. If ever there was a problem Andy would take care of us fiddlemaniacs ( maybe a new term).
Oh. ... Unless you used a worksharp to chew up your knife [emoji3]

Been a busy couple of days but owed this thread an updated pic of my runt.

I think I'll call this one 'squeaky clean'.

Came back in great shape all tuned up and fit as a fiddle'back'

Thank to all in the shop for the fast turn around and impeccable workmanship

Glad you like it B. Thanks for all your support over the years. I still carry the knot keychain you made me. Thanks!

I have extensive knowledge in this and judging by the photos it is unfortunately beyond repair. I feel for you and am willing to offer you $100 so you can replace it.

First off Sham - congrats on your "new" Runt, it really does look good as new!!

Secondly, this quote here from LaRue..., I'm not 100% sure if you know him & he was joking around w you/saying this in jest? If not, I find this comment unsettling, I guess is how I'll phrase it. Every word seems designed to illicit a cringe in the reader...sort of akin to an antiques appraiser telling you that you're 18th century NY-made desk is pretty crappy, but hey, he'll give ya $100 for it so you don't have to look at the horrible thing any longer. I am not a knife refinishing/repairing 'expert', certainly, but I know & can do enough to keep my own collection in tip top shape. The moment I read your post & saw your pics, I thought 'hey, no problem at all, I bet FF will fix it right up for him if he doesn't do it himself'...because it's painfully obvious that the knife damage was minimal & fairly easily remedied - & just about all of the comments in this thread said the same thing, except this early one by LaRue. His word choices of 'extensive knowledge', 'unfortunately', 'I feel for you', & 'willing to' are designed to trick you into giving away your favorite Runt for $100. Again, I can't assume this isn't just an inside joke or the like, but if not, well....ya, I'm just happy for you man that you got her fixed up!

Haha it was totally in jest.
I figured by the $100 offer that would be easily understood. Sorry if my comment triggered a microaggression :D

No harm, no foul....

I don't post as much as I'd like and don't believe LaRue and I know Each other yet, but I took it in jest. It's all good

Cheers!

I've bought multiple custom knives off VanDammet on the exchange here, he always sells for somewhat absurdly low prices in the first place. Judging from my own experiences coupled with his already very good prices I would imagine he's gotten some downright insulting offers. I'm sure he wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers, that probably just hit mighty close to some frustrations. Not trying to speak for the man, but I can definitely attest to him being a great dude to do business with.

Back on topic though, that Runt's trip through the laundry didn't even leave any character marks that I can see! Looks fantastic!

Oh man...my turn to learn a lesson.

Went on a 10 day vacation. Left the house to a lady friend (let's leave it at that). But...I forgot to tell her the knives were off limits.

Came home last night to find my prize Koa Arowana covered...and I do mean covered, in rust and scratches. Seems she used it, washed it, left it out, and upon discovering the rust on it, took an abrasive pad (lengthwise) to it in a desperate attempt to clean it up.

I'm borderline homicidal. Now to send an email to Andy to set up a spa treatment and try to salvage what I can. Oh...she did the very same thing to a Bushboot as well! It's even worse.

Time to invest in a knife safe? :D I didn't see What they looked like before, but they look great now!
