Least amount you would spend$$$$$ ???

The issue of trusting a knife is firstly knowing how to use one, and the one you carry you are familiar with. I have seen first time knife (bush knife) users damage good blades. The Mora is a little more vunerable to misuse but can do the job very well, and will continue doing so, as long as handled by someone knowledgeable.

I am well versed on bushcraft and survival so a Mora is ok as minimum. But not recommended for a first timer in a survival situation. Saying that,, a first timer would do better with a spork and shouldn't be in a survival situation outside their cell phone coverage.

if i was trusting my life on a knife or tool i would spend as much money as i had to get the best/most amazing thing ever... If im trusting my LIFE on it who cares how much money i have afterwards, if im not alive. Its really funny how everyone is trying to say they would spend the least amount of money possible... But if your life was truly on the line why would you bother being frugal...

A tad missing the point. The objective is to discuss the merits of entry level knives. It also raises other issues such as skills and readiness in different environs. Most here have the most amazing thing money can buy. There are a heap load of cheap binnables, more than a few expensive binnables but what works in the cheap range. I live in a country that $20 bucks is alot and they are getting away with $3 pocket knives and alot of TLC. (amended - sometimes not getting away with it)

Interesting is the Mora, by Frost. It is in a huge amount of hunting and fishing kits and in a grey area of dispute as a survival knife. I have a Mora in my glove box and know it would not fail me. I also travel with a forged blade as that is virtually indestructable (but not stainless) and a multitool.

well,.. I would say Knife, $45 -$50 = Sak/machette combo.

Boots as little as $15 knee high rubber boots, in place are great. new balance/nike walking ,hiking shoes $40 to $85, if I finda pair of boots that make me say wow these are it, who knows? hundred or two.

sometimes its not getting what you want to make it, but making do with what ya got.

Dr Bill calling me BRO, PRICELESS
