Least amount you would spend$$$$$ ???

My Mora Clipper was about $9.

I bought 2, thinking that I would have a spare if the first one broke or wore out.

The second one is still unused in its sheath.

AND WHY I WOULD NEVER TRUST ONE--WITH MY LIFE

http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53712

1) Looks like the bottom two are plenty long enough.

2) That's ONE knife out of countless hundreds of thousands. I'm guessing that somewhere a Busse has been broken as well. One data point does not a conclusion make.

But to answer your question: for $50 I can have my choice of several great knives: Buck Nighthawk, Benchmade Rant, Queen D2 hunter or Beretta Loveless (zytel). So I guess $50 is my number.

Although I feel naked without some edged tool on me, I am not afraid of being without a blade. Sharp objects abound in the outdoors (I assume that's why I always have cuts and scrapes after being outdoors;))
That being said, I'd go with a Cold Steel Finn Bear @ $11.

For me , either my BK-2 ( paid $90) , or my Esee -5 ( paid $185).
The dollar amount part of this question seems redundant to me . I don't base my trust in a knife based on the dollar amount, personally. I base it on the quality and construction of the knife.
I paid almost twice the amount for the Esee than I did for the Becker , and as anyone here knows , they are very similar knives. Yet , I know when I take either into the bush , neither of them are likely to fail.
So to answer your question " The least amount you would spend $$$$$" , my answer is $0.00 , because money is not a factor to me when it comes to staking my life on a piece of gear. My two sense.

I was trying to determine the ratio of $ spent on Boots to Knives

Go to the BOTTOM of the first post and see the PART 2 of this question

See post #69--and answer part 2--

Thanks

I will factor your answer of $0.00 on a knife as soon as someone tells me how that needs to be done.

Please see post #69 and give me that answer as well)

Good question!

I prefer Danner 452s/453s (around $150), but I hike in and trust Power and/or Adidas skate shoes @ $20-$40 as well. So $20 it is.

I'm trying to determine the RATIO of money spent on knives to boots

Thanks for taking the time to reply to both questions

So far --most people are willing to spend 3-5 times on their boots than on their knives

Others--It's the reverse

Though some here have named some pricey knives I am sure that a good machete worth under $20 would be plenty capable of handling most survival situations. However good shoes/boots are often not cheap and are probably more important for survival - I would say that in plenty of survival situations the footwear is FAR more important than what you use for a knife. I'd happily use a knife worse less than $20 but I would want to spend whatever it cost to have good boots. How easily can you walk to safety with blisters or injured feet?

About $75 for the knife, the RAT-7 in D2 that I have is amazing.

Boots, how ever much Uncle Sam pays for combat boots, stitched soles, pretty supple leather too if you treat them right.

The least amount I would spend on a knife for a general willderness setting is 0 dollars. ( Gift) The least I have spent for that is between 30 and 40 dollars. As for boots, the boots I have are between 150 and 200 dollars.

The Knife I would choose to take is about 100 dollars.

For me the minimum would have to be $300 if my survival were riding on it. If it were for some crazy reality show with a big cash prize offered for surviving; but I had to do it with only a Mora/kabar/ESEE/cheap machete/Buck Special/SOG Seal/etc. I wouldn't do it.

As for boots the minimum is $150.

Uncle Sam pay's $568.68 for each pair of combat boots issued ;)
