Least intimidating knife designs?

SAK would be my call, but these too:

Anything on a key chain especially if it is a multitool / traditional. This one gets more positive comments than anything else especially when I tell them it is handmade.

Charlie Mike and I have similar ideas. I call this one the Vaquero Ultralite, 5.25" oal. Alabama Damascus at 60rc, heat treat by Peters, worn one myself daily for couple years plus.

Horizontal sheath almost disappears in plain view on your belt:

Rocks a boot sheath too. The boot sheath works great as an IWB as well.

Man I love those knives 👍

I carry a 3 1/2" bladed folder...and use it where and when I need to cut something. I don't flash it or whip it or anything screwy. Nobody has been afraid of it yet, AFAIK.
I see NO reason to conform to the Ladies Aid Society rules of knife-handling...when they use butcher knives in the kitchen on a daily basis. Just an opinion.
Previous suggestions of scale decoration are just fine to engage passersby, but won't work too well when your hand is wrapped around the grip. I don't like really small knives, although SAKs et al certainly have their utility.
Damascus blades, like River of Fire, are super, however the cost factor and the cutting efficiency of various damascus blades might be brought into question.
Perhaps one answer...my answer...would be to engage the public "lightly" and allow them to be educated as to the wonderful uses of cutting tools that we carry in our pockets. After all, cutting tools are NOT a recent innovation.

Knives with a wooden handle seem to attract much less attention in my experience. I have 2 identical knives, one in G10, one with rosewood handles and the latter has never gotten any comments anywhere.

Knives of color and plain edge seem to get a better response for me. I've been asked "Why do you need something like that" when using my black Salt 1 se. But pull out the purple Delica pe and now it's, "Hey can I see that?"

Lol yeah, it's crazy the way the NKP think. That's why I'm thinking of getting an Orange Delica or maybe even a blue.

First, size matters the most. If it is a big knife, it will be scary to many people regardless of its shape. Second, the pointier the tip, the more intimidating (so BM 943 will look more scary than BM 940). Third, the more familiar to or commonly seen by the public a knife is, the less intimidating it would be, e.g., SAKs. Lastly, the speed in which a knife can be openned. Knives with assisted openning would be more scary than slip joints.

To the OP, no - one should definitely cares the surrounding it he/she is to whip out a CS Espada XL (heck, even the Large is scary to me).

Usually any knife that is so small as to be nearly ineffectual. The Serge Panchenko Flipper Bean doesn't fit that definition, but it's much more interesting than scary.

Pink always helps, as does a hair dryer and two shades of lipstick.
This COULD, however, pose a choking hazard for an infant since they like to pick up brightly colored objects....

Any Swiss Army Knife, or a traditional slipjoint like the ones our Grandads somehow managed do get through the Great Depression and WWII with.

Hi! Among the ones I own, I’d surely say that MTs and the SAKs are the mostly well accepted blades by the many people :).

In rural areas here Opines and traditionals also go quite unnoticed :).
