Leather sheaths!!

Where can I get one, that is?

It's for the Boss Jack LE. I've tried all the big names and they are either too busy to get anything out in any practical amount of time (for me), and/or they are too slow responding.

Why is this such a problem with Busse?? Maybe they should make their own sheaths. You listening Jerry? :)

Think about it: I want a carry/utility knife like the Boss Jack, and I would like to be able to carry it, use it, when I get it. If I have to wait 3 to 6 months for a friggin sheath, then I either can't carry the knife when I get it, or I have to get a kydex one-- which is NOT going to happen with a satin blade. No way.

So my question is: of the lower profile sheath makers, the lesser players if you will, are there any who do nice leather sheaths that you have had good luck with in terms of both quality and turn-around time?? I know Nick Garner has made a good one for me in the past. Any others?

Thanks.

Ouch. :(

Must not have contacted me as my wait is 2 months at the most, less for a semi production.

Disparaging both leather and kydex sheath makers in one post isn't going to make any friends.

Leatherman-- How am I disparaging anyone? Please explain.

All I said is that the top makers are too busy. Good for them! They're busy because they do great work and they have made a reputation for themselves. I don't have a problem with them.

As far as kydex goes, the material scratches satin blades. So why would I want a product that scratches my satin blade? And how does that disparage those who make them?

And yes I did contact you. I asked for your paypal info so that I can easily give you my money. I haven't heard back.

Again, I want to make the transaction as quickly as possible so that I can have my order in process, and be without carrying my new knife as briefly as possible.

Hmmm...

Seems that I recall that Busse sold sheaths with their knives once, but there were complaints then too. So, Jerry did the smart thing as a Knifemaker...he decided to stick to what he does best...KNIVES, and let the Sheathmakers do what they do best...

As many sheathmakers...in this case leather sheathmakers...as there are around this Forum, you mean to tell me that ALL are too busy or too backlogged??? Chuddy Bear, Kenny & Cody Rowe, leatherman, mikeymoto, Paul Long, Rainwalker, and some 10-20 others quality leather sheath makers whose names escape me ATM are all booked up, aye? Interesting...

BTW, to get a good quality leather sheath, there usually is a wait time, as they are done one by one, and usually by one person.

Try perusing the Sheaths & Such forum.

Chuddy Bear Leather & Armoralleather does amazing work, and the wait-time shouldn’t be more than 8 weeks, tops; but I’m guessing you already tried them?

Edit: Whoops... :o I was typing (and doing other things on the PC) while I was about to post; didn't see the last few posts :o... Anyway, Jaxx, as usual, nailed it.

Edit: I just got an Armoralleather sheath for my SAR6 (no wait time though) that is sweet - fits PERFECTLY!

You gotta get one of these:

I don't know how long the wait was, but whatever it was, it was worth it. Patience is a virtue.

I just had an amazing leather sheath made by Paul Long, for a SLUT. I think it was 10 days from the time I shipped it to him 'till I received it. I sent him an email, he responded the next day, two days later I shipped it , he CALLED me upon receiving it. too bad I don't have a camera to show the great job he did.

Your tone comes off as abrasive in the first post, I've read it several times and it still comes off very gruff and demanding. You obviously didn't mean for it to sound that way, but the written word is a very difficult medium at best. Your much more congenial post in the sheath forum does prove your very aware of your tone and the way it can be construed.

Kydex does not scratch steel, its not even close to hard enough to make scratches. Now dirt and sand, that will scratch a blade. In any sheath it will get imbedded and cause scratches. Kydex gets this bad rap simply because its a stiffer substrate and normally sits closer to the blade. Theres several makers that specialize in sheaths that dont rub the blade at all, Oku being one that comes immediately to mind.

I am sorry if anything got lost e-mail wise, but, our last e-mail to you was confirmation of the order and we do NOT accept payment till time to cut leather, its just better that way for both sides. Like I said in my post, we have alternatives to the wait time, semi production sheaths stitched on our machine, take much less time and I do them in batches. One is in progress right now as a matter of fact. You might have mentioned that you were in a hurry and wanted something like that. It is stated clearly on our site.

Oh man!!!
You NEED to borrow a camera to show us what he did for your SLUT!!
Seriously??? A SLUT in leather???
PLEASE show us!!!!

Y'know, that is rather intriguing. :D

I would love to see my SLUT in leather.
would like to see a picture or more info
thanks

There are good reasons that Busse does not make sheaths. Some buyers make their own (I make my own sheaths). There are also many collectors who buy many of the same models. Many of which are safe queens. If you only buy users it makes sense to have a sheath come with each knife. How about if you buy 27 of a model? Do you want to pay the extra 30 to 60 per knife when you won't ever carry all of them.

What if you buy only safe queens as collectors. Imagine a collection of hundreds and hundreds of knives (even 1000) all with sheaths you will never use.

Busse does have sheaths available directly from them occasionally.

They do what works for them. I know many many makers that won't touch leather. If you want one for their knife they will send it to a maker.

I have a leather maker who made sheaths for my SAR 3 and NMFBM. He took a while to make them, a few weeks if I recall. If they are hand made and made by one person, I can imagine it will take a while.

Very good point! I never really thought of it that way - makes complete sense...

BTW, I have my BJLE in kydex and no scratches. Go figure.
I'm just too abusive for leather out here in the Great Northwet.
Dwayne, thanks for yet again being a class act.

It's common knowledge kydex scratches satin blades. That's why one will read, "kydex marks on blade" when looking at used knives in the for sale forums. If you have had better luck with kydex, that's fine too.

The problem is that kydex is extremely hard, compared to leather or cordura, and has zero give when a hard piece of debris, like dirt or sand, gets in it. Leather will more easily absorb or give on such hard pieces of debris. Kydex doesn't absorb it, so the full size of that particle is left exposed against the blade during insertion or extraction.

Please.

that is exactly what dwayne said. it is not the kydex that causes scratches or blemishes, it is a piece of debris.

you are absolutely wrong.

and i agree with his initial assessment of your op.

I guess its true of the old adage "You can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time"

Komondore, please do not put my integrity to question here, your frustrated, I understand that. Don't take it out on me or the other members here. We have the beginnings of a nasty turn, I dont want to see that happen.

I have several Boss Jack sheaths on the stitcher right now, as an offer of apologies for somehow offending you, I'll give you one. I hope it at least provides you with a serviceable way to carry your knife and you can have it in your hands by the end of next week at the latest.

Again, I apologize. No need to carry this any further down into a mess.
